With all due respect to Derek Thompson, the Mean Green’s quarterback last season, his 2012 season wasn’t one for the record books. 57.5% completion percentage (83rd in the nation), as many interceptions (14) as touchdowns, a good-not-great 7.1 yards per attempt. It was an unspectacular – even average – season. So why isn’t he on this list? Because North Texas’ best chance to take a big step forward offensively is if Brock Berglund becomes the starting quarterback. Berglund was a big-time prospect, one of the top-rated dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation coming out of Colorado in 2011. But he ran into some trouble academically and ended up playing at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College. He’s qualified now and transferring to North Texas, and bringing his considerable skill with him. And while there are a number of spots for improvement for the Mean Green, quarterback could be the biggest one. A step forward under center could do wonders for the team; but if Berglund doesn’t win the starting job, it could be more of the solid-not-spectacular work of Thompson.

The article says it all. We need Brock to win the job for the offense to take a step forward.

The article also says he played at Scottsdale CC, which he didn't.

Even DC is care less about UNT.

And it says he is "transferring", not that he's been here a year practicing.

Even DC is care less about UNT.

Played in a scrimmage and accumulated some descents stats that game. Did have 2 picks, but judging by the stats he probably got more playing time than the other 2 qbs he was competing with. Largely irrelevant now.

Hey, we starting winning some significant games and we'll start getting people's attentions.

      What's the appeal of Carthel? Honest question. I don't follow FCS closely, but it seems like every time a position opens up at UNT people on the board want Carthel to fill it. I see he won the NCAA Division II championship in 2017 and has an overall record of 89–48 which are both impressive. However, his run at SFA from a W/L perspective looks similar to Seth's at UNT in that he built up the program in a few years, but he seems to be plateauing over the past few years. I'd love to hear more about what the advocates see in him and why he'd be a good fit for UNT specifically.

      Odus Mitchell - What Exactly are Too High Standards at UNT?

      I really want people to read this: https://meangreensports.com/honors/north-texas-athletics-hall-of-fame/odus-mitchell/3 This man was and still is very much under appreciated here. I love the legend of Mean Joe anyone under 50 can remember seeing prime NFL Mean Joe playing. There is no Joe Greene in a North Texas uniform without Odus Mitchell. We have low expectations because with dismiss what Mitchell showed us was possible here. Heaps of excuses and disgruntled fans attacking each other on our board. Odus Mitchell is the kind of "Old Denton" I want. And MAYBE if we truly honored him properly and consistently as the MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE in Mean Green Football history we could knock off some of the negative karma. The Mean Joe Coke commercial is cute but is never something remotely associated with UNT Football without Mitchell rebuilding the program from WWII hiatus, winning, integrating CFB in Texas, and bringing Mean Joe to Denton. Hayden Fry doesn't have enough in Denton to come and rescue without Mitchell. How this program has underachieved for 20 years is an insult to his legacy imo. I wasn't alive for his tenure and likely you weren't either. But legacy is about what you can read about when there aren't cute videos!
