I was born in Minnesota and loved listening to Gopher basketball games on cold winter nights. I haven't followed the program that closely lately, but three NCAA berths in six years after one in eight for Monson seems like Tubby should have gotten another year.

It's not too late to fix a mistake.

But it appears some are too prideful to admit the mistake and move forward.

That should make those people's job directly tied to Benford's success or failure, but it won't.

Because we are North Texas, and we do things differently.

And not to mention he had 20+ win seasons in 4 out of 5 seasons in Minnesota... Only one could hope we could land Tubby.

Edit... Real programs do this

"To part ways with Smith, Minnesota made the financial commitment in having to pay a $2.5 million buyout that was negotiated into a contract extension that Smith signed last July that was to keep him with the team through the 2016-17 season. Making the buyout more of an issue is the university is still paying buyouts for former basketball coach Dan Monson and former football coach Tim Brewster."

This is how real universities handle college athetics.

Que the apologist with the "poor little ole UNT is just too poor to act like a real universit" posts.

So real programs go in debt in an attempt to get a better coach? Then I am happy that we are not considered a "real" program to you. Maybe you should go work for the federal government. You would fit right in with the wasteful spending and debt. Oh... And I know all of the students and their families would love for us to waste more of their tuition on salaries for university employees. (logic) maybe if we throw more money on the fire it will put it out... (face palm).

But Tech is so much richer than we are...

Hey, remember how we used to beat them out for recruits? That won't happen anymore.

So you can indefinitely say that we will get zero recruits who also have intrest in Texas Tech? Pretty bold statement and most likely un true.

Look next seasons goes south then we can talk about the coaching situation but Benford has hardly been here a year. If it gets worse perhaps we can see what Lundy can do but you firsthave to give the man some time.

The teams in the Big 10 also recieve about $25 million per year in revenue sharing from television contracts. Compare apples to apples.

Well, there is a pretty direct comparison to USM and Hpuston, but I'm sure you will tell me that those schools are way richer than poor ole UNT.

We have the money to pay out the contract if the administration cared enough to do so.They don't.

Yes, actually, real programs do actually go into debt.

This link is a bit dated now, but the point still stands. Not just "real" programs....most programs go into debt.

A total of 14 athletics programs in the FBS reported positive net revenues for the 2009 fiscal year, which represents a decrease from
the 25 reported in 2008. The gap between the “profitable” programs and the remainder continued to grow, however a bit more slowly.

He has done enough damage for a lifetime.
