COPPELL — Arlington Seguin, the state’s fourth-ranked Class 4A boys basketball team, got all it could handle in Tuesday nigh’s 4A Region II quarterfinal against Lucas Lovejoy but pulled away late to claim a 49-35 victory.

Seguin (32-4) never trailed and depended on rugged play inside by Kimani Jackson and a trio of double-digit scorers to outlast a well-coached Lovejoy squad.

“This was a very good game and you have to give Lovejoy credit for playing us as tough as they did,” Seguin coach Bobby Thigpen said. “But we stayed with our game plan of playing strong defense and scoring in transition to help us get the win.”

Seguin’s defense was at its best in the second half in forcing 11 Lovejoy turnovers, while Marcus Frazier and Greg Wesley helped carry the scoring load with 15 combined second half points.

Wesley led all scorers with 18 points and six rebounds, with Frazier finishing with 12 points and five steals. Also standing out for Seguin was Cris Boleware with 10 points, while Jackson added 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Lovejoy was led by senior Trevor Eckard with 16 points and 10 rebounds, with teammate Cameron Knight adding 10 rebounds and four assists in the loss.

Wesley fouled out midway through the 4th after sitting about 3 minutes with 4 fouls. Had about 10 points. Kimball's All-American Keith Frazier came back into the game late to make the go ahead basket. Frazier went down with about 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd with what appeared to be a concussion and/or broken nose. Made a heroic Rocky type return that you only see in the movies.

Wesley should see time in the rotation next year but doesn't add much to the offense. (other than alley oop dunks and put backs)

With Benford, everyone will be in the rotation. If Mitchell does not return as expected, the front court is going to be really suspect If Wesley doesn't start who will? Coleman returns and no one else. Jordan Williams is definitely a 3, and I am not sure he could effectiely play the 5 or 4.

Coleman, for better or worse, is your 5. Wesley will see time along side of Friar, Nunn, and Williams at the 3-4 spots. Unfortunately, Jordan rebounds like a 1 or 2.
