Why don't we just invest in some chalkboard paint and cover the helmets in it, then place whatever flavor of the week design this board comes up with. Now we're unique and saving money.

Problem solved.

This guy gets it. I do love the Nike Pro Combat jerseys, I wish we had those in mostly current design. Edited by meangreener

Please explain to me the difference in our jerseys and a Pro Combat jersey. Wouldn't they look essentially the same?

Better technology, better made. Nike spends a lot of money on R&D, the Pro Combat line is their latest patents and newest technology.

The URCM department and the university grants exceptions for the use of our athletic and spirit marks all the time. The "UNT" lettermarks already exist and could easily be used in an interlocked fashion as one of those exceptions.....IF the university wanted to.

Rick

I think Lee Jackson and other 'higher-ups' would love to see "UNT" used.

But apparently he doesn't care enough to bother RV, who is adamantly against using anything but "North Texas".

Well, I can tell you this, if it were not for RV we would already have UNT on the helmets, and I fully supported his efforts on that the time.

But I'm wondering if using "UNT" shouldn't be something we should pursue now? Getting our name on the helmets has achieved what RV wanted to achieve.....getting our name out there with some recognition as "North Texas". But I think it's time for the next step.

Maybe a combination of the SOW and a UNT? That way, at some point down the road, the next step would be a good looking interlinked "NT" like the one on the facebook page?

People forget, we have had an interlinked "NT" on our athletic uniforms, including our helmets, off and on for decades in some form or another. So it's part of our tradition and should be again.

This works for a school down the road from us.

I bet we could make something like this work. But good luck anyone trying to change Rick's mind. He's the boss.

just for the record...and not that anyone really cares.

I often sound like I'm anti eagle...that's really not the case.

In fact the eagle helmet from 1995-2000 was probably my favorite NT helmet in the last 25 years.

I'm just not a fan of SOW...and never have been. I also never liked that we spelled out "North Texas" on our helmets.

In my opinion, I think we could do better..."lot's better." That was the whole inspiration for these proposed uniforms.

I personally like the interlocked NT the best because it's uniquely ours, ties the old with the new, it's balanced & symmetrical and looks classic & collegiate.

My second choice would be "nothing" a truely traditional helmet...Green with one white stripe and grey facemask. ala Alabama

Someone mentioned "Mean Green" written out ala "Ole' Miss"...or maybe in "Raging Cajuns" style....that would be my third choice.

My fourth choice would be our eagle head from 1995-2000.

Plus:

We also need "Black Accents" to help update our look...socks, shoes, cuffs, collars, chin straps, outlines and facemask

Always Remember:

No horn stripes on pants and jerseys...

We have this outstanding new stadium, a new coach and a new conference....we need a better helmet and uniform for our team and fans...we need a little "wow" factor in Denton....

Your dislike for the SOW completely baffles me. Everyone I know loves it, UNT fans or not.

And considering he dislikes it to what we sarcastically referred to as The Daffy Eagle during the '95-2000 era, which performed miserably in merchandise sales. Helwig got that logo from a free clip art flyer that came in the mail.

But I agree with 3X completely on the need for black accents to go along with our new Freeway-Sign Green we have adopted now.

sorry Mean Green Nation...but SOW is too simplified and exaggerated for my taste...aka "stylized"...but to each their own

"The Daffy Eagle" and "Freeway-Sign Green"...that's greatness...I'm learning all kinds of new terms...ha!

speaking of...

that "Freeway-Sign" Green really is awesome...I love those billboards...and yes agree with Rick that would look great on uni with black accents...

When "Daffy Eagle" and the rest of the branding at that time came out, there was an article in the NT Daily talking about the huge amount of money that we paid some New York firm to come up with it. I'm not saying that the NT Daily couldn't have gotten it wrong, but where did you hear that about a "free clip art flyer"?

I want to believe that a change of uni and helmet will accompany the new conference and new nest. I really do. But the general consensus seems to be that we're doomed to more of the mess we have currently. Someone who knows someone, tell me there's hope... also that the interlocking NT is a part of that hope.

I was told this by one of Helwig's assistants in the promotions and marketing dept of the AD Dept. Plus, I had received the same mailer before after working on some t shirt promotionals for the FD dept.

Is it possible your thinking of Helwig making that announcement, and I believe it was released to the AP...about us signing a national licensing agreement with CLC?

Helwig thought it, along with changing our school colors, was a big deal and all and that all of our merchandising worries were over and they could just put it on cruise control and CLC would do the rest. He couldn't have been any more wrong because the colors were hideous, the logos were fuggly and CLC out of Atlanta Georgia could give a rats ass about a low sales-market like North Texas and has hamstrung our ability to expand our branding ever since.

Not sure if it still is the case but the last time I checked schools like Texas State and Sam Houston were kicking our asses in sales. That wasnt all CLC's fault of course, but a more regional, private license agreement would vastly help us in that area.
