Just had a great memory flashback for Jamario Thomas I'd like to bring up for consideration. :phone:

This was during I believe his last season when we played AT Baylor. He was in the game for I believe only 1st and 2nd quarters but managed to pop off some ridiculously long runs and was able to put us in a position to pretty much cruise to victory on his back. He injured himself (recurring hamstring issue I believe) and after he left the game NT went nowhere and was blown out. His speed was just unstoppable if he could get a hole. I'd say he had the most raw talent of any recruit I've ever seen at North Texas (1995-present). I thought for sure he would be an NFL talent. He had more speed than Dunbar IMO but just could never overcome the hamstring problems.

That's not even mentioning the 70 or so yard run WITH ONE SHOE!!!

Here's my ballot. Granted, I did not see most of these guys play, but there's a reason why they're in the HOF right??

QB: Maher

RB: Cobbs, Dunbar, Haynes

WR: Love, Shanklin

TE: Blount (I didn't think Waters was that great of a TE while he was here, was he? He was just before my time.)

OL: Bishop, Brewster, Carrico, Eagle, Holloway

DL: W.Chapman, Greene, Hardeman, Kennedy

LB: Gross, Kassell, Robertson, White

DB: Brashier, Buckles, Lockhart, Reece (would have voted for J.T. Smith here, but... you'll see)

P: Gowin

K: Baz

Return: Smith (I dunno. Was he a great returner?)

Coach: Write-in for Ron Mendoza. (Kidding. Mitchell)

---How could anyone not select Steve Ramsey at QB..... he quarterbacked and started for Denver in the NFL for several years in the 70's. He was replaced by Craig Morton who then got them to the Super Bowl. He was QB when Joe Green was here. Ron Shanklin, later of Super Bowl Champon Steelers was his main receiver.

QB: Ramsey (another tough choice. It came down to Ramsey and Maher for me)

RB: Haynes, Dunbar, Cobbs (extremely tough choice)

WR: Quinn, Shanklin

TE: Gardner (thought he was the best all around TE)

OL: Holloway, Brewster, Zuniga, Bishop and Armour

DL: Greene, Chapman, Hardeman, Kennedy

LB: Gross, Kassell, Spencer, Washington

DB: Phillips, Beatty, Lockhart, Buckles

P: Gowin

K: Khoury

Ret: J.T. Smith

Coach: Mitchell

---Second the motion... good list... but somehow get Beasley Reece on list at DB....and absolutely keep Spider Lockhart as DB. Beasley played several years in NFL... Dallas, TB, but mostly Giants beside Harry Carson at DB (NFL-HOF).... might bump Beatty off for Reece. .

I chose (and choosing the Olinemen and DBs was toughs since we had so many listed from WAY back):

QB: Ramsey

RB: Abner Haynes, Renfro, Dunbar

WR: Shanklin, Love

TE: Andy Blount (even though Waters was a better all-around player, Blount spend all 4 years at TE)

OL: Whitlow, Parker, Holloway, Brewster, Armour

DL: Joe Greene, Hardman, Booger, Chapman

LB: Gross, Washington, Spencer, Kassel

DB: Beatty, Buckles, Brashier, Reese

Punter: Toby Gowin

K: Baz

Returner: Abner Haynes

Coach: Mitchell

I guess I looked at it from the perspective of how they played while at North Texas. Some went on to NFL success, some didn't, but I really didn't take that into consideration. If I did, then I couldn't vote on someone like Brandon Kennedy.

I agree... but if rather equal... then look long-term... I still don't know how anyone could not vote Ramsey... even based only on what he did at UNT.... in a way.. the MVC of that era was ahead of its time... lots of passing here and other schools, Tulsa, Cinn. etc. Lots of good players walking through then... the SWC, SEC and ACC was all white and lot of great players were in the MVC. .

I looked at the record book and gave the nod to Maher. That was my only deciding factor.

Even at that... look at W-L record [22-6-1] and who Ramsey's opponents were... not Southland teams. They almost beat Arkansas which had lost 1? game and it was to a great UT team. NT was near the goal and winning when time ran out...

Tough calls all over the place, but:

QB: Mitch Maher (my head said Steve Ramsey, but I went with my heart on this one)

RB: Cobbs, Dunbar, Jamario

WR: Quinn, Shanklin

TE: Jeff Muenchow

OL: Phillip Armour, Bill Bishop, Glen Holloway, J.R. Randle, Nick Zuniga

DL: Walter Chapman, Cedric Hardeman, Joe Greene, Booger

LB: Byron Gross, Brad Kassall, Craig Robertson, Burks Washington

DB: Bill Brashier, Jonas Buckles, Leonard Dunlap, Lyndon Fox

P: John Baker (toss-up between him and Toby)

K: Garrett Courtney (several of them neck-and-neck)

Coach: Odus Mitchell

Oh, and for return man: Abner Haynes
