UNT will host one of the top linebackers in the state this weekend in Sherman’s Kahlee Woods.

The 6-foot-0, 235-pound honorable mention all-state selection has already visited New Mexico and Colorado State and will visit Texas Tech on Feb. 1.

Woods plans to take all his visits and carefully consider his options before making a final decision, but enters his visit to UNT with a high opinion of the school and the direction of the program.

“I like everything that is going on at North Texas,” Woods said. “It’s booming right now. I played in their new stadium and felt what the atmosphere is like. We won that game. Maybe it’s a sign.”

Sherman played Rockwall Heath in the playoffs at Apogee Stadium last season, when Woods earned first-team all-district honors for the second straight year.

The proximity of Sherman to UNT and Woods friendship with UNT cornerback Zac Whitfield could give UNT an edge when it comes to its efforts to land Woods. Whitfield and Woods worked out together over the holiday break and played together at Sherman.

I got to think this has to be some kind of recruiting violation , no ?

@kellytm: @Kwoods_8 My name is Terry Kelly and I work for UNM athletic communications. I'm trying to contact your coach for info on you. Can you help?

Goes on to exchange emails, dm

Am I overacting because I REALLY want this kid or is this a possible violation ?

I think they changed the rules that coaches can use social media to contact recruits. Maybe just basketball? I don't remember exactly, but I thought I heard that...

But he's not a coach. He just works for UNM athetlic department

True.

But I think the regulation of social media is all but impossible. Anyone can create an account and cause trouble. I could make an account posing as a big donor and booster at XYZ University and contact recruits night and day. How much time can the NCAA have to look at twitter?

Let's start to do this. We need all the edge we can get!!!
