With all the realignment focus on Tulsa to the Big East no one is talking about the Big East adding an Eastern team. It makes sense that Navy might want Army for the 12th spot in CUSA.

Big East West: SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Memphis, UCF, USF

Big East East: Temple, UConn, Cincy, ECU, Navy, Army

I believe Army tried C-USA before and were pretty much dominated especially in the non revenue sports...my guess is they will stay independent so they can control the schedules better.

Navy committed way before all of the changes and I wonder if they will stay in.

Speaking of Army, I spoke to my good friend who went to Army, and is a Feeb, and we are pretty excited about our upcoming series. What is the schedule looking like with them? 2015 thru 2025? Is that true?

Personal opinion...

I believe that Army has been offered and said no.

I believe that Navy accepted hoping to lure Air Force into the Big East when it appeared that Boise and San Diego State would be a part of the conference. I have serious doubts that the Middies actually become members of the nBE unless the new contract is substantial.

I like having service academies on our schedule. Always great games to attend. Bring 'em on!

Service Academies don't depend on TV revenue to fund sports the way other schools must.

But, they do rely on donors to help cover budgets. Government budget dollars come no where near providing all the costs. And, remember, these guys really don't have "athletic scholarships". Every Midshipman and Cadet is on "scholarship", so the athletic budgets do not ave this pressure, but I can tell you from personal experience that only basics are covered in the govt. provided budget. Donor dollars are still very important to these guys. And, bowl/TV revenue is very beneficial. Navy. 'S budget has been helped a good deal from the bowl games these last few years and the TV dollars from the annual Army-Navy game.

But, yes...basics are covered by the taxpayer....the basics. Pretty much like the basics are covered by the taxpayer at state universities as well. And, TV revenue is not as important to these guys....but, still important.
