A lady from North Dallas called to report that a dog was barking and was keeping her awake. Officers were dispatched and, acter driving up and down the street and alleyway, they were unable to locate the dog. As a courtesy they wentto the lady's door to tell them they had looked around and found nothing. As they approached her door they began to hear the loudly barking dog...inside the lady's house.

Another man called to report that the moon has a magnetic pull that forces him to look at it. He wanted us to bring out a "magnetic field recognizer" to trouble shoot the issue for "public safety".

----Also remember that these nuts once walked into someones classroom and that these people also have kids ....that schools have to deal with... It is a strange world out there... Toss in that about everyone in prision was in school-rooms as well and we had to deal with them... My absolute worst (by far) was class of less than 20 who had 5 "students" that were later charged with murder (4 murders) plus two in the room that were murder victims (the killer of one was in that room also... bad drug deal.. about two years later.) ... The class period prior to this one that I had had a kid that later appeared on TVs Most Wanted.... crazy, crazy year.....Guess which year I ran a marthon.. that one... would come home frustrated and hit the streets to keep my sanity and take out my frustrations. .

--Have some sympathy for those who stand in front of a classroom... it is a tough job as it is for those who work in law-enforcement. At least teachers get to deal with a lot of great people as well as these nuts.

200 BLOCK OF ROOK RAMSEY – A man walked into the Sheriff’s Office and said he was drunk. He was then arrested for public intoxication.

Rook Ramsey. Now there's a blast from the past. Wise County's own version of Boss Hogg.

Carl "Rook" Ramsey

January 1, 1951, to December 31, 1960

January 1, 1977, to December 31, 1984

Carl "Rook" Ramsey is probably the most well known sheriff in Wise County History. He was born in Decatur, Texas, on March 1, 1911. He attended school in Bridgeport, but graduated from Graham high school. He also attended Decatur Baptist College. In 1935, He married Mable Sparks of Boyd. They had one daughter.

Rook Ramsey began his career in law enforcement in the early forty's as the city Marshall for the City of Bridgeport. On November 7, 1950, he was elected to what would be the first of many terms of office. He served until December 31, 1960.

After leaving the sheriff's department, (he was voted out) Rook and his wife moved to Fort Worth, and went to work as the Chief jailer for Tarrant County Sheriff Lon Evans. In 1975, the Ramsey family moved back to Bridgeport, and Rook took an investigator position with the Bridgeport Police Department.

On November 2, 1976, he was elected to his second term as sheriff.....(because the county had had enough of a church going Sheriff (J.R. Branch) and the paranoid crazy Sheriff that followed.)

He served as sheriff from January 1, 1977, until January 1, 1985, when he retired.

Rook Ramsey died on October 6, 1994. He served as sheriff for a total of eighteen years.

Carl "Rook" Ramsey was not only well known, but he was also greatly respected by the citizens (and feared by the criminals) of Wise County, both young and old.

The only thing missing from this photo is (like Boss Hogg) the cigar that he was always smoking.
