Driving today I caught a segment talking about the Mavs and their woes. The talk turned to the draft and how very weak they thought it was. One of the guys said "a player from NORTH TEXAS (capitalized because they emphasized it) might be the #1 pick!". They apparently have heard this rumor from NBA insiders. This highlighted two things to me.

1)No matter how "weak" this draft class might or might not be, there are people who think Tony is #1 pick worthy. Yep, the same guy who is supposedly too pouty and lazy to run our scheme might be numero uno on draft day. (Not my words, theirs)

2)This absolute dumpster fire of a season has made the thought of one of our guts as the first pick such a joke...and such an indictment on this draft. If JJ were still here, or any competent coach, and we were sitting on a 3,4 or 5 losses instead of staring at a three game blowout loss streak, what could the press from Tony do for us?! Anyone think Tony is gonna speak glowingly of this place after this beating of a season? We will feel the butt pounding from this hiring mistake for a long, long time.

I don't consider him "pouty", but he lets things get to him too easily. A silly foul, missed shot, poor pass, etc. gets him down for a minute or two. And he might not be "too" lazy, but he doesn't hustle up and down the court. I don't know what that is called, heart, effort, laziness, whatever, but it's there. Both of these things are there and if you don't see them, then you're not watching.

The good thing is he's only 20 and both issues can be fixed.

***edit*** I didn't get a chance to listen to the game tonight, but saw he had great numbers, hopefully this is a sign of him starting to play to his full potential.
