And don't forget the administrators that set the tone for our athletic departments. Starting with Dr. Matthews who actively discouraged (or maybe it was forbid) giving money to the athletic department above and beyond what was allocated by the University.

Thus the eventual conversation between Hayden Fry and the support staff that was in place when he arrived "Who is the director of our athletic fund raising organization?",.... support staff person "What athletic fund raising organization is that?".

This was the face of the North Texas administrative culture from 1951 to 1967
