Read an article behind a pay wall about this kid from China Spring. Was 1st team all district at center. According to the article, he benches 400 pounds and squats 650. These are numbers associated with much higher rated recruits on the dline. He is only 6'1"/285 so he knows he has to switch to dline if he has a chance at a scholly. Supposedly getting lots of looks, but no offers yet. Sounds like a solid player to offer to walkon or if we somehow end up with an unused scholly. Really like the strength numbers. So many of the kids this size coming from HS struggle with posting 350/550 bench/squat numbers which won't get it done at this level.

Sounds a lot like the the Victor Howell kid we offered from Kimball.

Most interested in UNT, SMU, and Baylor.

They are getting down to the end of the line. Mac has shown he will offer an undersized achiever if able (Mustafa Haboul). The problem for Pullen is he hasn't even played defensive line and we gave the other center spot to McKinney. At least with Haboul he had shown he could be very effective at a high level of high school competition.

I heard from this kid....He excepted a scholly to Texas A&M Commerce as center. Red shirt this year and not liking the school at all. He wants to come to UNT. Was being recruited by Justin Gaines recruiter at UNT right before signing day his senior year, but Gaines got fired and kid didn't get schooly. He tried talking to other coaches about situation but they claim they weren't aware. Kid looking to transfer to UNT if possible. He has a 3.5 gpa his first semester at Commerce and an overall gpa of 3.2 with transfer hours. Looking to get academic scholly and possibly walk on and prove himself and earn scholly. I think it is pretty amazing he is willing to give up scholly with Commerce to be apart of North Texas. He did play defensive tackle first of the season as a senior, but coach wanted him as center. The other coaches really wanted him as defensive tackle but head coach had to have his way. Really sucks for the kid, but he is a team player.

D2 is different is regards to scholarships . A D2 school can divide scholarships in a number of ways, so very few of their players actually are given a full scholarship. In most schools the top QB's receive a full ride. I think the total number of ships cannot exceed 35. Yet, I know one D2 school that had 115 players report for football this year. I'm sure this included a number of walkons without any part of an athletic scholarship. Point being that the young man at A&M Commerce is probably not on a full ride.
