There are going to be some very good battles going on this Spring, and I am sure well into Fall. The best part about it is that in most of the position battles, there will be some quality depth to have people fight it out.

For as long as I can remember, since the DD years, we have needed and wanted competition, but didn't really have the guys to compete for spots. Many of the position battles recently have seemed to be won by default.

Take a look at the following, and it seems like we might have some good ones shaping up...

QB - Thompson/Berglund

HB - Jimmerson/Pegram/Byrd

WR - There are a host of guys, and the only sure one is Chancellor

RT - Anyiam/RS's/JUCO

C - Feldt/JUCO (this old be one of those default battles due to health issues w/ Feldt)

DE - Bellazin/RS's/JUCO

DT - We have a couple of RS kids that will be battling it out for Cantly's spot

CB - Chad Davis/James Jones/Whitfield

S - Busby/Buyers/Davis/Kelly/Lee/Marshall/Trice (I can't see Trice not locking a safety spot up)

P - ????

Should be fun!

Also, Whitfield isn't going to be challenged. Need to put Hilbert at the CB to be challenged spot.

Whitfield was 2nd team all conference as a redshirt freshman at a position he switched to in summer practice. One of 3 offensive or defensive players to make all conference (he and Orr were the only 2 from defense).

You do know Chancellor didn't make the all conference team, right?

FYI but some of the prospect guys I have talked to liked Davis better at FS. Not sure what UNT's plan is with him though

TCU was looking at him for safety. He's a man to man, bump and run corner. A true man to man, cover corner is hard to find and from some of the UNT games i have seen, he may already be the best man to man cover guy on the team immediately. If he gets any faster this track season, he will be running a 4.3 40, so he could also play FS safety. It will also depend on the type of defense UNT will run. If it's a lot of zone, then he will have to learn the defense and schemes. Not a lot of thinking with man to man. If he is able to step in and lock down a corner, that will allow the safeties to do a whole lot more in the box.

When I was talking about corner, I assumed Hilbert Jackson would be replaced...I was listing the three players fighting for to spots
