Why are you setting your sights so low? What about UT/A&M/Baylor/TT/TCU? We all would much rather play them home and home. However, will they play us home and home? Home games against Texas schools along with Army, Navy, ...My point is let's start with UT and work our way down the list until we have 6 home games that are in our best interest. TT or Baylor might even play here just to see the new stadium.

Since we're playing make believe let's have a rivalry with Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankies. All those teams have great followings and would to give up millions they make off home games to sign home & homes with UNT.

We all agree regional rivalries are the way to build the program. The great thing about CUSA West is it gives us those regional rivals. The school can now use it's OOC schedule for less payday games and more winnable games.

So lets look to Houston/UTEP/Rice/SMU... you know, teams who have been around a while. Why do we need to look to these startup/moveup teams to create rivalries??

I think that you'll get some reciprocity on this from UTEP and Rice, but UH fans don't want to be associated with us because we are like their version of UTSA or TX State to us. That don't mind scheduling us once in a while, but they have no interest in being in a conference with us. Obviously, SMU feels the same way, but the added spice to that mix is that we are both located in the Metroplex. They are never going to give in on this. TCU plays SMU regularly just because of the history of the rivalry, but they made it clear many times to SMU that they had no interest in being in a conference with them again. When we played TCU in the early 00's (some close games, BTW) TCU fans regularly questioned why their AD scheduled those games, that they shouldn't give North Texas the chance to gain an upper edge. Baylor and Tech have all basically done the same thing in regards to playing us, too, in OOC. It just gives them too much vulnerability, because a loss is a killer for them..

Exactly the point I was trying to make. We can ask the prettiest girl (UT) to the dance (not a chance in hell she says yes) if that satisfies everbody's ego, but as we work our way down the list to more realistic chances, it may get down to the homely girls (Texas State, etc). You can put 2 bags over her head and one over ours (just in case) if it makes everybody feel any better. However, she might be an ok dancer and have a great personality. It's just a date. You don't have to take her home to meet mama.

Bottom line is if we want to fill the ballroom we need to stay with local girls. The past shows it works.

Texas Southern drew 22,259 this year and they don't get any homelier than that.

I suppose it depends on what the priorities are and what the long-term vision is...

If it's about butts in seats as you are indicating above, then it looks like we're the ugly nerd guy who just bought a new car (Apogee) and can lure the ugly girls to be with us while socking lots of money under our mattress. We'll have plenty of money, but we'll always be associated with the ugly girls, therefore we will always be ugly. The ceiling is very low. But, right now, it is VERY reachable, and looks enticing.

What I would like for us to be is the ugly guy that gets a makeover to look suave. We still have the same new car, but when we look good, we can pursue the prettier girls (not supermodels, but pretty), and be associated with them. Eventually, everyone else takes notice of the formerly-ugly-dude-who-looks-good-now, and we can start putting that money in stocks to grow exponentially. This ceiling is much higher, and appears difficult to reach from where we are now...but we gotta start somewhere.

What does Savannah St. have in common with Sam Houston, Grambling, Florida A&M, LaLa, Northwestern State (it's in Lousiana), L. Monroe, New Mexico (twice), James Madison, Western Illinois, and Missouri State?

This year they were all home games at Big 12 schools. The Big 12 loves homely.

Based on our small time donor base, we might be more like the 30,000 millionaire. We have borrowed the money to buy the flashy new car (apogee) and clawed our way into a new conference (even though the existing memebers seem to not want us) and now expect everyone to tell us how great we are and put us on the A list.

I think another analogy might be that we are "house poor". We bought the Mc.Mansion and now we are struggling to afford the upkeep and the homeowner's association dues.

I don't see any of those teams playing us regularly unless they share a conference with us. Do you?
