I guess that's a pretty good lifetime for a musical legend, I think Dave Brubeck passed away maybe a week shy of 92. We all knew of Shankar as the Sitar virtuoso who inspired George Harrison and other rock stars of that era, but it truly blew my mind to learn of him as the father of UNT's own Norah Jones. He was estranged from Sue Jones and Norah as well for at least a decade, but I understand that he and Norah came to some kind of reconciliation. I have thought more than once that UNT musicians are only a degree or two (or less) of separation from the musical legends of our times, and I guess this is a story to illustrate that:

I really enjoyed listening to his music as well as what he inspired in George Harrison, and especially the historically significant Concert for Bengladesh. He was an artist who made a difference.
