Hyperbole is an exaggeration of a fact. Maybe if we were expected to make a bowl next year, and you said "We are going to play in the Rose bowl," that would be hyperbole.

Saying we will play in a bowl when you don't believe we will is.... A lie?

Ok, I think I see your point. If I were to have written something along the lines of , "XXXXX is acting like the biggest d-bag in the world", it would have been hyperbole. However, what I wrote previously was not, because even though all other defintions of hyperbole I have seen, including the one in your post, indicate that it is simply an exaggeration used for emphasis or effect, my original post was not because it was not exaggerating a fact.
