I think some things got better...still a lot of work to do. It seems so often that we have one or two people click, but then the rest of the team is way below average, we need to find a way to win those kind of games in order to have any success.

For me, I think last night just took a little more air out of an almost flat balloon, so I guess I'm going to vote that I still have major concerns. On a scale of 1-10, my interest in this team has probably dropped from a 10 to maybe a 3 over the past month. I haven't even made the effort to see who we're playing next.

While this may not be a dominate season like many of us were expecting (or hoping?) if this team can continue to improve and build off of this performance then all may not be lost.

We can kiss an at large bid goodbye but I still think this team is capable of wrecking havoc in the SunBelt Tournament.

Rob Dauster@RobDauster

Just watched St. Louis-North Texas. Tony Benford has no idea how to use Tony Mitchell. Turned him into a jump shooter.

Ben Weixlmann@BWeixScout

Benford has absolutely zero control of this team. Mitchell, a future NBA'er, hasn't touched the ball on offense since his return.

FINAL: #SLU survives a scare from North Texas 67-63. Mitchell finally touches the ball...with 0.3 remaining. Brutal coaching for UNT

Not saying I agree/disagree with either , just found these on twitter. Just some opinions from people not associated with UNT

So you're saying that they're not picking option #1?

There were a few positives I'll take , but still way too many concerns

Positives :

Both Chris and TM seemed more aggresive last night. We need that

I didn't see near as much subbing by Benford. He let the guys stay on the court.

We pushed the pace at times. We are much more effective when we shoot early in the shot clock

Taped the game and watched it today. WTF. I've seen YMCA teams coached better than that. Beenford says he subs so much because he's replacing guys who are making mistakes. I call BS. CJ turned the ball over the first 2 times NT touched the ball. Too many other examples to cite. WHY does this happen to NT?

Well, Norm Hitzges called out Tony Mitchell today. He said he was one of the best talents he had seen. But, then he said was lazy. Not saying I agree or disagree, just saying what I heard.

A lot of criticism of Benford, glad they apparently didn't see his earlier games. He was much better in the last game IMO.

There were some head shakers though, calling a time out with NT with numbers in the middle of a fast break. I didn't like MItchell as a jump shooter either, but it was a lot better than staying under the basket like the ULL game and not being an offensive factor at all.

If we start playing Tony at the 4, we might actually do something. This team looked best when Niko and Coleman were in the game. Because those guys were playing the 5 and everyone else played their more natural position. Hopefully soon we see a lineup of

Jones

Alzee

Patton

Mitchell

Coleman

With PJ, Holman, and Niko getting the majority of bench minutes. JW, Franklin can also play the 3 as a sub, and Franklin at the 4 when another 5 is in the game besides Mitchell. In fact either JW or Holman can play the 3 in a backup role or with the rest of that starting 5 because they won't be relied on to score points. They both struggle when they feel like they have to score.

Looks like the key to the season is Patton getting healthy and taking a starting role, and Coleman just taking the starter's role. Too much of Mitchell at the 5.

The lineup we've been running out there exposes everyone's weaknesses.

Franklin can not guard the 4 or 5. But he could probably guard the 4 if Mitchell isn't the 5, meaning as backup for Tony. Tony just isn't a center, he isn't great in the low post, tries to block every shot which gets him out of rebounding position and we just get destroyed on the boards and/or he gets cheap fouls for reaching on rebounds he was out of position for. But at the 4 Tony blocks shots without worrying abut rebounds (Coleman) and/or vacuum up rebounds.

I think this team can be good again, if Patton and Coleman come through. It puts everyone in roles than can excel.

CJ scores, Alzee is solid, Patton scores and defends, Mitchell doesn't have to play a big man and can dominate stats in a position where he doesn't have to either play the wing at the 3, or foul out playing the 5, and Coleman eats up the other big man and rebounds.

Fingers crossed, subject to change.

. WHY does this happen to NT?

Because, throughout our history, the powers that be at UNT have made the wrong decision at the wrong time EVERY time?

Question. No Info.

EDIT: this is why I have a sense of impending doom with the most recent conference realignments. My expectations for where we end up are... Lets just say not very high.

Being the only Texas school in CUSA that has not been mentioned in connection with the MWC is very concerning and I fully expect us to be the lone Texas school remaining in the conference when the dust settles. I guess at that point CUSA would add TxState though....Good times ahead.
