ANy fans here familiar with Marquette's offense? Does it work, and Is that what Benford is trying to bring here?

I'm just trying to understand where Benford is coming from. This vid did not do a whole lot for me (maybe it's late).

Marquette has done very well with its half court offense. I think our players wish the old system were still in place, but its not. The thing that Tony Mitchell needs to understand is that in the NBA, he will not get to pick his offense and system and that if he wants to excel there, this is an excellent opportunity to learn how to adjust to a new coach and new offense. Coaches come and go in the NBA and players get traded all the time, the ability to adjust is one characteristic that will enhance his career and an inability to do so will hamper it.

I wonder if Benford will become our basketball version of Jerry Moore. As some may remember, Jerry Moore followed Hayden Fry to coach North Texas in the late 70's. Fry was using a pro set and Moore, who came off the Nebraska staff, was hell bent to run the power I. The result was disaster. We played .500 ball his first year and then crashed and burned. Hope Benford does not make the same mistake.

Jim, as I recall Jerry Moore ended up an even .500 in his two years which wasn't bad since he was trying to run the Power I with Pro-Set personnel. That brings up another point, however, when does a coach adjust to the strength of his roster? Or, does he remain adamant and only coach his philosophy? By the time Mitchell, Jones, J Williams et al adjust to the half-court offense the season may be too far gone to salvage.

I heard Dean Smith talk once at a TABC clinic. He begged high school coaches to not to try to run his T-game offense. He stated that no high school would have the personnel to run it or the time to teach it. Also, there were years that UNC did not run it becuase they did not have the proper personnel. He said that coaches should always put the players in a position to be successful. Even if that means adjusting the offensive and defensive schemes until he can recruit players that fit it better.

Me thinks there may be trouble in paradise.Tony no showed for Friday's practice after Thanksgiving ,and does not look, act, or play like a happy camper. Bedford may be a good coach but not have the personel for his system.I thought we had gotten past the stage of hiring assistant coaches instead of experienced head coaches, such as Women's Basketball and Men's Football programs.
