He apparently missed practice yesterday.

We really shouldn't make too much out of this. Many coaches have a rule that you don't start if you miss a practice, even if the absence is excused ahead of time. Being that Tomy came in to the game within 2 minutes of the opening tip. It would seem this was the case.
