Brendon Walton out for the season; two LOI's in

Brandan Walton is out for the year with a broken foot and will redshirt, a UNT spokesman confirmed this afternoon. I’m expecting an official statement to come out in the next hour or so.

It appears that he is eligible for one and that played a part in his decision. What I don't know is how this will affect our scholarship numbers,,,ie we will be down one this season and need an extra one next season??? Or does a medical redshirt not count against your totals?

He is still on scholarship and if its granted will be next year too. We will have one less ship to give for next season and one more the year after than we originally planned.

Interesting.... as with the commitment from Wesley, I believe our 2013 class is full (assuming the Sr.s graduated and Tony left). Now, with Walton looking for another year, I wonder what happens to him/one of our recruits?

I think we had one more to give out, and now we have zero to give out.

If you expect all verbal commits to sign, and all signees to be put on scholarship and added to the roster for next season... Yes.

If you expect recruiting to be a fluid process, where promises we make and take are revocable at will... Probably not.

So I suppose we need to find out who ink'd today? Because if all of our commits signed LOI's today, then we should be done. I'd certainly like to bring Edo in as well, but if all LOI's were signed by all commits, then I'd rather let him go than kick someone out. I'd rather tell commits, "no thanks", than guys who have signed.

I know that just about every coach shows one or two kids the door at some point. I guess I just worry about turning into a place like Marquette, where they seem to throw 3-4 kids overboard every year.

I would mind it even if we were winning. I'd HATE it if we weren't. But, unlike you apparently, I haven't given up on this season yet. As poor as the start was, we can still do a lot of good things. We just have to do them.

Here is my dream... We sign Wesley, Friar and Nunn. Next year we welcome back Walton and Taylor to hopefully help the perimeter game. That leaves 2 more ships. I am not interested in Norris and I am unsure of this big Brazilian kid. We do need another solid post player since we are losing everyone down low. Then maybe a solid 6'3" combo guard who can knock down the 3.
