Western Kentucky fired their coach halfway through the season last year and salvaged a conference championship with a loaded roster. Ours is MUCH more loaded than what they had.

I think RV has to consider this an option. We cannot waste the talent on this team.

Honestly, how did we not see this coming? wasn't this guy highly touted by Marquette's head coach?

This is kinda like saying Jeffrey Dahmer really likes your butcher skills. Maybe not something you want to include on the resume.

If RV does this it is like signing his official resignation papers. Not that I'd oppose it, but that is the reality of the situation. It won't happen mid-year like a Dodge firing.

Let us wait a few more games to see a turnaround, say 5-7 games. If it does not get better by then then I will forgive RV for his mistake and hope the powers that be will also - provided he acts quick enough. If he takes Todd Dodge time or Shanice stephens time to act however he proves it is time for him too..... If there is a turnaround however, then we will all remember this episode as really embarrassing but be proud that we remaind solid green through the bad times

For the record, I've almost never jumped on any "fire the coach" bandwagons and wouldn't pull the trigger on Benford just yet, either. I do think this year brings different circumstances than we're used to at UNT. Mabye this isn't a make or break year for the program, but it would be an ENORMOUS opportunity missed...the kind of opportunity that catapults the program to the next level.

That said, someone mentioned 5-7 games and I'd probably give them 10 to turn it around. That said, we might be in a position where we cannot make a move like Western did last year and still salvage the season. Western hired their would-be replacement before the season started with the clear message being that the HC was on a short leash with his replacement all but named. I'm not sure there is anyone on this current staff that sits in that same position and would be ready to take over and do the necessary things to right the ship (should it not be righted by mid-season).

      Painful loss…

      This loss was not painful, Lonnie...it didn't hurt anything at all. Just showed that the guys will fight back to the end. Literally, nothing changed from losing this close one.

      With as poorly as we played, we fought back in the second half and had a chance to pull off a major comeback win. Kudos to the players and coaches for making Fisher and the crowd sweat this one out. I kinda felt this one coming, but as the second half went on, I also thought this was going to be such a North Texas way to win a basketball game. Just didn't work out for us. Regroup and lock-in for the real prize.

      Women’s Hoops Begins AAC Tournament Monday Night Against ECU

      DENTON, Texas — The UNT women’s basketball team will kick off its postseason run against East Carolina Monday night in the quarterfinals at the American Athletic Conference Championship. The second-seeded Mean Green and No. 7 Pirates will meet for the second time this season with tip-off set for 6 p.m. CT at Dickies Arena. The teams have met twice in the last two seasons with both contests going into multiple overtimes and resulting in UNT victories. North Texas won in Denton, 93-91, in four overtimes on Feb. 27, 2024, in what was the longest game in program history. This season, the Mean Green took a return trip to Greenville where they used a second-half comeback to send the game into overtime. Jaaucklyn Moore’s game-tying 3-pointer in the first overtime eventually led to a 73-71 victory after Jaelyn Talley made a go-ahead layup in double overtime. The Mean Green will look to avenge last season’s early exit at the conference tournament when they fell to Rice, 61-59, in the quarterfinals. For the second straight year, UNT enters as the No. 2 seed following a 23-7 regular season. This year’s team put together a 15-3 mark in league play, marking the most conference wins in program history. East Carolina will play for a second straight day after defeating No. 10 Memphis, 64-45, Sunday afternoon. First Team All-AAC selection Amiya Joyner led the Pirates with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Monday’s game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb on the call. WHAT 2 WATCH 4 • UNT will begin its postseason against East Carolina on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship. • UNT's 23 wins this season is tied for the most in program history with last season's squad. • North Texas earned the No. 2 seed and a double bye to the quarterfinals at the AAC Tournament for a second consecutive season. • Tommisha Lampkin, Desiree Wooten and Aniyah Johnson represented UNT on the conference's postseason awards. POSTSEASON AWARDS • Tommisha Lampkin became the first UNT player to earn First Team all-conference honors since Terriell Bradley in 2017-18. • Lampkin was a unanimous selection to the All-AAC First Team by the league's coaches after leading the conference in double doubles, rebounding and FG%. She was the lone player in the conference to average a double double on the season. • Desiree Wooten earned the first all-conference honors of her career being named to the All-AAC Second Team and the All-AAC Defensive Team. The sophomore guard averaged 11.3 points per game, while ranking No. 3 in The American with 50 steals. • Aniyah Johnson joined Wooten on the league's All-Defensive Team in her senior year. She collected 176 rebounds on the season and was fourth in the AAC with 24 blocks during conference play.
