It's true, but for two big plays and stupidity on their part near the goal line, we wouldn't have been close to the bottom team in the league. I initially blamed it on our weak offense but then I began looking at what USA had done this year. Their offense has been weaker than ours but their team is built on defense. They have a good defense; especially run defense. They are second in the conference. They lose games but they stay close.

I don't see any way that we can beat both ULM and WKU. Maybe one but not two. I would like to see us beat ULM however just to break the eight year 'no two wins in a row' jinx. If that happens then maybe we'll have a 50-50 chance at a .500 season. We don't have a bowl team but the prestige of appearing and the extra practice time would be nice. I would likely help recruiting also.

Geez. I get the feeling some of you would rather the team just quit instead of keep playing.

The title of the original post was 'road to BOWL ELIGIBILITY'. It wasn't, 'ok, now that we have beat USA which bowl do we want to go to'. The odds are still very much stacked against us even getting bowl eligible, much less getting an invite if we get to that point.

I don't know why everyone is so down about how we played on sat. We got the win and I think that's pretty alright...

Then again, I was pretty hammered the whole time

+1, I agree with what you said, except I wasn't hammered, and it looked fine, other than one series in the 2nd half when their running game was ripping off 8 or 10 yards a carry. Fortunately, when they got to 4th and 1, they forgot what they had just been doing and shanked a chip shot fg attempt.

Right now, let's just try for FIVE wins. Don't worry about two weeks when we need to concentrate totally on this week. Five wins means equalling last years record and getting back to back wins for the first time in forever. THAT will show unquestionable improvement from last year and a two concecutive years of improvement. And telling a recruit we're an improving team and all we need is him to make the team great will get a lot of hungry recruits for us.

Leave Mac's recruits out of this!!!!

Yep, that's why we get 25 per year. Can't always predict what will happen when kids get weaned off the teet.

Pressure to peform does strange things to people (in sports and in life). It makes some people focus, while it makes others fold.

It's better we find out early before a lot of time is wasted.

getting hammered was a pre-emptive strike, in case we somehow lost to USA... I don't think i could have handled that being sober

I'd be surprised if we make it to 6-6. Even if we did, I would not be in favor of playing in a bowl in the event we were asked.

After enduring the frustration of a 17-53 record over my 5+ years of following the team, I would be ecstatic if the Mean Green received and accepted a bowl invitation!

For the negative Nancy's, I agree that it is a remote/remote/remote possibility (we are a -10 road underdog). But can you believe how fun it would be, if they somehow find a way to sneak past ULM this weekend and having a potential .500 season on the line in the last game?

The last several years we were not even competitive for the most part. Even if we do end up getting kicked in the nuts, it is way better to have some hope than none at all. Maybe Browning won't have his best game this week coming off an injury and we can play a complete game.

BEAT ULM! GO MEAN GREEN!

I don't believe in "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. No 6-6 team should go to a bowl.

I agree that there are too many bowls, but I think the benefits make it a no-brainer to accept the offer if it came.

Exactly . . . we might not have as much to offer a 5-star recruit as some other schools would, but we'd still take him if he wanted to come to UNT.

Oh no . . . now you've got me talking about accepting bowl bids! :surrender:

back to back home winning seasons. I like seeing victories in person, but seems to be a little hollow to be considered an accolade.

I'm optimistic, happy that things are better than Dodge days, hopeful for where we are going, but I'm not going to dig to give praise.

let us not forget what the great Tom Selleck taught us in Mr Baseball:

Jack Eliot: I'm a World Series MVP!

Skip: That was four years ago, Jack.

Trey: You hit .235 Last season.

Jack Eliot: LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!=hollow accolade

That... Um... That's quite an obscure movie reference you've got there.

I'd respond with a Bernie Mac quote from "Mr. 3000"... But, like the rest of the universe- I've never watched it.

I watched the heck outta that movie as a kid. It just always stuck with me. That really is a pretty obscure stat that he was looking for praise on. Kinda like saying, "2 winning records, at home, in 2 years". IMHO
