...not just from the Athletic Department, but from #24 Brandin Byrd!

He thanked me for being a part of the Mean Green Club and asked if I had any questions. I just made him guarantee me a win this weekend. ... and he did.

I like this strategy as it didn't seem like Brandin was just reading off a script or anything, he seemed sincere. I'd rather hear from the student athletes rather than the assistant to the associate director of concessions or something.

Good job RV & Jessica, and thanks for the call Brandin!

I got a call from a girl on the swim team. I feel bad because I was really, really tired, and it took me a couple minutes to figure out who she was. I probably sounded pretty dismissive to her. I was working on four hours sleep the previous night and fading fast. Sorry, whoever that was. I really did appreciate it.

My call came from a member of the men's golf team. Did a great job, and like others here, i did not feel like he was reading from a script. Really appreciated the call...he wasn't trying to "sell" me anything...just saying thanks.

I really appreciate the time these student-athletes have taken to do this...they probably did not jump up and down with joy when the idea was first presented to them as calling folks you don't know on the phone can be intimidating to some. Great job UNT Athletic Dept. staff....you know who you are...for doing this. It's very positive and was very much appreciated.

I got mine from a guy on the track team. Took me a second to understand him, as I was in a loud area at the time. I think he was suprised when I told him my dad ran on the track/cross country teams when he was at NT and wanted to talk to him about it. I let him go quickly though, since I knew he had other folks to call.

We also got a call from a guy on the track and field team. We weren't home, so he left us a message, but it was very personable and sincere. I wish we'd been home to talk to him. It was a nice way to come home, and sure beats a bunch of telemarketer calls on the machine. Thanks, Athletic Department and the young man who called us.

Yep, I missed a call from Andrew McNulty. Guess I'll have to make him my adopted gmg player next year! :)

Too late, he is already Mac's adopted player for life!

I got a call from Darnel Smith... I missed the call, but he left a message.

Opened it up with, "Hi, my name is Darnel Smith from the University of Texas football team. Thank you for supporting Mean Green Athletics through the Mean Green Club."

Yes, my quote is correct. He said "from the University of Texas"...

<sigh>

Zac Whitfiled called me at my work number and left a message. Seemed like he was reading it, but this makes sense since he wasn't talking to anybody. This really impressed me. I'm 50/50 for this week's game and this may have pushed me into showing up.

Good job RV/Coaches/Teams/Whoever for this effort.

I got a call from Valentina Starkova from the tennis team. She sounded like she was reading a script, but she is from Kazakhstan.

Sweet thing, she totally gets a pass. I told her to keep up the good work!!

Was the conversation the right length or did you feel like it was just a bit too long?

It was definitely too short.
