Have they really beat us 7 straight years? Damn, we need to end that!

Looks like thy are a pretty young team too

AN A-STATE VICTORY WOULD . . . :  Make it bowl eligible for the second straight year and fifth time over the last eight seasons . . . Extend its winning streak in road conference games to seven . . .  Give it eight consecutive victories against North Texas . . . Give it 12 wins over its last 13 conference games . . . Extend its winning streak against teams from the state of Texas to nine.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT:  Arkansas State is one of 39 teams in the nation to play at least eight true freshman this season.  A-State's eight true freshmen played ranks tied for the 36th most in the nation with Auburn, Clemson and Hawai'i.  Three true freshmen have started at least one game for ASU, including Rocky Hayes, Bryce Giddens and Chris Humes.  Additionally, A-State has played 17 combined true and redshirt freshmen this year, the 30th most in the nation.

A NEW START:  Arkansas State has 15 players who have started their first career game at the school this season, which ranks tied for the ninth most in the nation with 10 other teams (including North Texas).  Hawai'i leads the nation with 26 first-time starters this year.  Players with their first career start at ASU this season include David Oku (RB), Rocky Hayes (RB/WR), J.D. McKissic (WR), Aaron Williams (OL), Steven Haunga (OL), Bryce Giddens (OL), Alan Wright (OL), Ronnell Wright (DL), Shervarius Jackson (DE), Chris Stone (DE), Eddie Porter (LB/DE), Andrew Tryon (CB), Artez Brown (CB), Chris Humes (S) and Cole Lorigan (S).

Since 2005, Arkansas State has been bowl eligible four times, three of those times, ASU's sixth win of the season was against North Texas and twice it was at North Texas.

Well this trend is gonna stop.... and if it is not this year it sure as heck is next year B)

We've scheduled a team that has beaten us 7 straight years for our homecoming?

From the game notes

It is the 63rd homecoming game for North Texas and the Mean Green has an all-time record of 40-21-1. North Texas has faced Arkansas State twice on homecoming, in 1999 and 1986, both of which were wins for the Red Wolves.

My two bit analysis.

Neither defensive coordinator can be happy about this game.

For John Thompson he faces a team that seems to have a physical offensive line. Arkansas State has struggled dealing with teams that are physical upfront (have really serious depth issues on defense). USA gave ASU more than we wanted, and WKU was able to rally back from 13 by pounding the ball with mostly a few short quick hit passes.

For John Skladany he faces a team that loves to snap the ball a lot of times and maintain a very high tempo. Arkansas State wants at least 80 offensive plays per game and is averaging 75 helped in large part USA's slow pounding offense and three ASU turnovers keeping ASU at 59 snaps. UNT is 1-3 when giving up 70 or more plays with FAU being the lone win at 71.

Totally agree

I think our only real shot is to have a mistake free game , create some turnovers & have 40+ rushing attempts

Thankfully, we have already had a little practice against up tempo teams in Houston, ULL, and MT. We know what we need to do. The MG Brigade will perform a full show prior to the game and when the team comes out of the locker room for opening kickoff, all scoreboards will show that it is the 3rd quarter.

Our best defensive scheme will be to keep the ball on offense and move the chains. The only way we can do that is with Jimmerson getting his carries. I understand he is a younger player but the only way he grows is by throwing him in the fire. He has proven that he can handle it put him in now and get better in the future!

A couple more tidbits from game notes.

Y'Barbo is listed as starting center. Fortenberry not listed on depth chart. Injured/suspended/typo?

Feeley listed at LG in Y'Barbo's spot.

Carlos Harris is listed as starting WR in Brelan's spot.

Jeremy Brown is listed as KR.

Carlos Harris is listed as PR.

Very interesting. Hard to see it as a typo if Y'Barbo is at center AND Feeley is at left guard. Guess we'll see, but hopefully Fort is good to go.

Fortenberry did go down last week with a leg injury in the 3rd quarter. It looked pretty serious initially (like a knee/lower leg injury) however he came back in the game and played. It may have been one of those that "scares" O-Lineman where they get "rolled up on" more than anything else. If he is not listed as the starter though, some type of injury may have occured?
