Is it just me or do these guys seem to have their act quite together this year? I've been impressed with them, I like their outfits and they seem to be doing a nice job out there.

When I was there, Talons were the goons of the football fans. The other ones were the Wings- the drunk Lambda Chi jackasses who would do push ups for every point scored. Neither organizations were worth anything- at least 98-02.

Harry, aren't you a kind soul. I was not impressed with the Talons and the cannon Saturday night. They fired it only a few times, and mostly it was not in sync with what was going on. Also, I'm like Lifer.....where are the rest of them? Also(2) what the hell are they doing wearing blue jump suits? Good God, it's a NORTH TEXAS SPIRIT GROUP.....THE NORTH TEXAS SPIRIT GROUP (supposedly) and you have to have a close-up photo to tell who they are by the head bands that they are wearing.

I saw another group out there who seemed to be auditioning to be in charge of the cannon. They showed up in noticeable numbers. They were very enthusiastic (they did the push-up thing once). And the unis that they were wearing were closer to the North Texas school colors than what the Talons (the cannon crew anyway) were wearing.

I say give them the job.

I don't wanna turn this into another thread where two groups snipe back and forth --- but Talons weren't "goons" in any fashion while I was there ('96-01) and we had a presence (even if unadvertised) at most sporting events. Weren't many people of any sort going to soccer, tennis, or volleyball back in the day -- but I went to my share.

Silver we only scored one time ... That limits how often they can fire the damn thing no? On the jumpsuit color I'm not sure I've ever seen a green jumpsuit before but I guess they could dye it.

I am with you Harry. Not long ago the Talons used to lay on the pole vaulting pad at fouts games like a bunch of beached whales. They rarely bothered to watch the games much less show any school pride. Seems to me they are making an attempt to clean up their act and remember the organizations mission.

I remember a few seasons ago there was a girl in Talons who would wave a giant UNT battle flag, (or maybe a SOW flag or something... I don't remember) and she just had a really tough time with it every time. I felt sorry for her, bless her heart. I remember one game, being VERY windy, and she was literally falling down trying to wave the flag. We need some Talons with her dedication.

I think the GB and Cheerleaders might have something to say about being the most spirited group.

Blue Jump Suits? We aren't FAU, MTSU, FIU, South Al, or any other team that wears blue that we play.

Off the top of my head:

Eagles (birds that fly)

+

Green Flight Suit

=

Great Uniform (keep your jump suit, and now it's green)

Also- there has to be something you can do by making the canon crew, talons, green flight suit, militant theme... There's something there.

So, are the Talons only three or four people now?

Makes me laugh that an honest question garnered a -2 vote. So, how many members are currently in the Talons and what do they do? Honestly, I have not seen any of them, or they are just blending in with the other students. I'm not trying to flame this group, just really would like to know.

Just a few years ago, I think right after Boomer was fixed up (thanks to Firefightin Rick), I remember the Talons canon crew had green Dickies jumpsuits. Kind of an olive drab color. And they used to have somebody in a jumpsuit doing the air raid siren too. I'll see if I can dig up a picture later.

I don't miss the Wings --- and them barfing on the sideline.

As far as I can tell, there's still a pretty fratty presence of so-called "Wings" peeps that at least make themselves available for tailgating. I always hoped though they'd populate our new "wings" as it were and keep my wife and I at least in a crowd.

The parents up there Saturday night was cool though.

We also shoot the cannon off when the half ends, the second half begins, (I think) for the fourth quarter to begin, and when the game ends. I think I only heard it being shot off about three times total.

As to the jump suits. They could have gotten white ones (you know, our OTHER COLOR) and had "Talons" and "North Texas Cannon Crew" embroidered on them. Along with the white jumpsuits, they could have worn green caps and/or a green bandanas.....like this..

or even possibly this...

Here's one supplier for white jumpsuits.
