We didn't get the results that we were looking for. I just feel so bad for those kids who were sitting in that locker room because, I'll tell you, I've never seen so much try in a group of young men. Derrick Thompson and Zach Olen didn't play the way they know their capable of playing. We're just gonna love 'em up this week in practice and get it turned around. It just comes down to making plays. If you subtract those two plays where they scored we win this game by seven points. I know that these young men will learn from this adversity and it will make them better husbands and fathers. I know that our corners got beat several times and I think it just goes to show what I've been saying all along. Each time we blitzed the other team was playing its fight song.

I hear you Emmitt! My heart goes out to those guys, especially Zach Olen and Derek Thompson, who have done a lot for the team and have represented our school well. This morning I was thinking about how demanding that college can be for those in athletics , who do as much or more in the classroom and then put in more time than most of us realize in practicing and playing. Heck, I haven't had their kind of schedule since I was in the Army all those years ago. To me, that's what the life of a student athlete seems like it must be at times (without the live ammunition); that of a basic trainee in the Army or Marines. Hmmmm, did I miss some sarcasm? Nah!

Hey guys, go get 'em next week!

What's the status of Andrew Power? Noticed him in street clothes during the 2nd half.

Kimmy of the swim team needs to sing the National Anthem at the next home game!

Looks like they had the knee iced down in the 2nd half.

Emmitt, I played college football back in .....well a long time ago. Schedules were so simple. My son is redshirted this year, his first year, and he has talked a length about their grueling schedule. 7 am to 9 pm with classes, meetings, practice, study hall...somewhere in there they have to find time to eat. I see men and women in the work force today that could not handle that type of schedule.

Connor chose UNT because of Coach Mac and his staffs vision for the program. He had other opportunities within the conference, in the WAC and even the golden boys over in Dallas...but he saw the vision...so did his mom and I. The old phrase...."people buy from people" was never more appropriate. This is Coach Mac's 2nd season. "IT" is not built yet....but the foundation is poured and the frame is up. I was overly critical myself Sat after the game and Sunday morning. But after reading the many blogs and media....I came to realize and later posted.....It is not time to throw in the towel...IT IS TIME TO WAVE THE HELL OUT OF IT!!! In many cases, mine included, these are our boys out there on the football field. We would not have given up on them when they were growing up.... don't do it now.

Mac's mentor Hayden Fry went 5-5-1 his first year at NT, then dropped to 2-7-2 the second season. We all know how it turned out after that. He had a similar record at Iowa. Trussbusdad is correct, Mac is building that foundation. We're not even halfway through the season yet, no sense giving up yet!

Im beginning to think some missed the inside joke.

That night was like I was stuck in the Twilight Zone from 2009. I was watching some of the worst execution I've ever seen out of a Mean Green football team. Then, I turn on the postgame show and I hear who I thought was Coach McCarney (at least he was introduced as coach McCarney), talking just like our previous H.C.

There was really nothing different about that game than anything we ever watched during the Dodge years.

Well, the defense was a little better than Dodge's.

But, time to move forward and get the win @ FAU. Needs to be decisive so that we know last week was the anomaly.

Those were might thoughts as well....the offense looked like a high school team. With such poor play of special teams and D Thompson...it was a sure loss and I could see that happening in the 1st qtr...thats right...I could see what was happening and knew it would not change. Also, not entertaining in the least. While I support them...I just am not willing to spend 10 hrs on the road, the gas, the hotel, food, etc to drive to Denton and watch them play...it felt good to be back, but the game was a huge let down....If I lived near Denton, I would be back next time....but i don't. It hard to believe they played so bad in Apogee...with everyone supporting them....You could see the problem with the offense in the TSU game...they should have had another 14-21 points against them...they didn't.I thought the play calling against KSU was great....I thought the play calling against Troy was bad overall..OK at best....it sure was not on par with the KSU game. The defense looked very good...except there was not much pressure on the QB and they gave up the big plays...anyway if they don't get it together, La Monroe and WKU will make them look bad...basiclly I talking aobut the offense, special teams and secondary. I'm sorry, but have to tell it like it is. Your type of attitude is the biggest problem facing this program, not the players or coaches. If we had consistent fan support, we already would have been a lot further down the road than we are.

No way you can expect fans to drive up from Houston to watch that kind of performance every week. I highly doubt houstonmeangreen is going to quit going to UNT games forever, but I totally understand his attitude, and fans like him (who drive up to Denton from Houston) are DEFINITELY NOT the problem.

If UNT had consistent fan support, they'd see how consistently bad this team has been since 2004.

It's amazing any fans are showing up. I still have some hope McCarney turns it around, but that's all we have at this point -- hope. The team is 1-3 and still has to play Houston on the road.

No, the biggest problem facing the program is losing games. Everyone (players, coaches, fans) feel like they have been kicked in the nuts after a lost like that. We'll spring back after we walk it off. Until then it still hurts.

Chicken and egg concept. Fans drive program, fans don't support a bad or even a mediocre team.

A lot of fans on this board are going to support the team good or bad, but sadly most potential fans are not going to pay much attention to an average Belt team. It is a little strange that Dodge got a lot better early response than McCarney has with a lot more resources including a brand new stadium and announcement of a better conference.

NT is going to be a hard sell until they consistently win and it is no difference at most places. McCarney to me is going to get it done but it is going to be a slow process. I don't think CUSA next year is going to be a big attendance boost like some contend, yes it will a little better than the Belt but long term it depends on winning.

The good news is the new CUSA looks extremely weak, it will eventually be better much better than the Belt, but right now there is not much difference. Tulsa and I hate to say it, La Tech look to be the powers in the conference right now. NT should be better than the other W. Division foes.

With most of the team returning, NT should be better next year not that I have gave up this year. So the fan base should grow at least at a moderate pace.

I'm entertained by how the OP in this thread received a -1. Even in the face of a soul crushing loss we still have fans who are so butt hurt that they can't stomach poking a little fun at the worst era in the history of this program.

Sorry, folks, but THIS is the worst thing facing this program.

A lot of the TD support came from him having success at the local level. Had he come from the same situation but from a Florida HS or even from a Houston area HS, it would have been less. Lots of local people were familiar with SLC and its success and they were coming out to see the same thing happen at UNT.

Something positive...One of the least penalized teams in college football...One of the least sacked QBs in college football...Regardless of what the less than knowledgeable fan thinks, this team is considerably better than any Dodge led team. They play harder they're in better shape, they have giant hearts...Mac just hasn't had the time yet to recruit the hands he needs to run a passing offense. DT isn't helping when he has a game like this, but all QBs have them. Some other part of the team has to step up and the OC has to run plays that make up for QBs that're down. The special teams played better this week, it was just the head-case kicker that couldn't get it done. Kickers are like golfers; HEAD CASES.

I thought the Troy coach made some hard, but fruitful decisions when his 1st QB wasn't working out. I've seen Osborn play and he might've picked us up if given the chance. It's not a knock on DT and he doesn't lose the job, but he was having a bad night and Mac should've done something about it. On the other hand, when you run up and down the field between the 25s all night long, your kicking game oughta win it for you. Defense did their job.

I think that was me. Tried to hit the up arrow and missed. Now I know how a UNT kicker feels.
