Highlights

Played with this kid in high school. Same high school as 2012 signees Connor Trussell and Mustafa Haboul.

Named first team all state on the 5A level last year as a Junior. Extremely accurate as a kicker and can knock them down from 50, but his game is his accuracy.

Interest shown from UNT but no offers yet according to Rivals.

Is he the one who beat my Euless Trinity team in the playoffs last year with a kick in that driving rain?

Yes sir he is! It was actually that flurrying wind. You guys got us my junior and senior year, 2009 and 2010, but my first year off the team they avenged my class. Kid is a very clutch kicker but you definitely wouldn't think it by meeting him. That's okay since kickers are supposed to be a little odd

Unfortunately, this kid probably won't get a shot, as UNT already picked up a 2 Time All State Kicker from 2011 and 2010 (as a Junior) who went 17 for 18 on field goals and mostly all kickoffs for touchbacks his Senior year somehow getting 2nd team behind Grogan, who was only 8-10 on field goals. UNT would have put in Mesquite Horn's alumni kicker last night after the starter missed 2 field goals, but he has only been there for 2 weeks, as he is already getting reps in with the 1st team. UNT's back who is ready to go in received interest from UNT, Texas A&M, UTEP, Houston, LSU, and others, but came away with no offers and had to walk on. He is a fine kicker, kickoff specialist, and can punt as well. Although Ben Grogan is a great kicker and can hit 48 yarders (I have no doubt this kid will have trouble finding a home), UNT already has a kicker who has paid his dues and is ready to knock them down from 50 plus whenever Coach Mac calls his name. So no worries MEAN GREEN FANS!

Right, I have no doubt Grogan will find a place. As for our kicker you speak of, I haven't seen him play (all though I may have since I played Horn when he was a sophomore just don't remember him) but if he is that good I expect him to be given a shot this week. He's a kicker, it's not like he has to learn a new offense or anything. If he can knock them through he deserves a shot

Last night had field goals from 33, 42, 52, 52, and 56. If nobody else offers him I don't see why we shouldn't at least offer him a walk-on spot. Doubt that happens, but he could challenge Zach Paul and Travis Tamez to be Olen's predecessor.

Kicking has been our achilles heel. I'd give the kid a full ride scholarship.

Apparently we have a stud right now in Travis Tamez who just graduated from Mesquite Horn and was Second Team all-state last year (Grogan was first team). He isn't listed on the roster, so I don't know what his status is for next year. I don't see the harm in offering Grogan, but I'm a former teammate of his so call me biased.
