And this is why we'll never be truly big time. So long as we honestly believe the opponent is the draw we will fail.

It's reality. If we had just beaten Arkansas, taken Auburn to OT, and were hosting Baylor at home, what kind of attendance and intensity do you think we'd have at Apogee for that game?

And if ULM had just beaten an FCS team, gone to OT with a Belt team, and was hosting another Belt team at home, do you think the attendance and intensity would match what they have tonight?

It's a quick fix but will it be sustainable? Probably not. I don't disagree that it helps to play better teams closer, but I will take a bowl eligible team every year over a couple of close games.

Excuses are like you know what. Everyone has (at least) one. I will support this team regardless of who the opponent is. I care about UNT's record, not the team they are playing. Win against our conference and I don't care who they play in OOC. Just win baby. Make me grow tired of debating the quality of our wins rather than the quality of our losses.

What is that supposed to mean? I'm not making any excuses, and I will support and have supported for 20 years the team regardless of opponent and regardless of how crappy the product on the field has been.

I'm just pointing out the very obvious, obvious to all but the most obtuse . . . the excitement going on about ULM right now--not just in Monroe, LA, but throughout the whole country--has a whole lot to do with their opponents. Comprende?

We've gotten crowds against NMSU. And I bet there fans here that have never heard of them.

Can we all just agree that it is probably a little bit of both quality of UNT teams and quality of UNT opponenents?

I say we already have matched them. TWICE. Look at the size of crowds we got both times Baylor played us at Fouts.

But if UNT had just had accomplished what ULM has done the past two weeks, we would fill Apogee whomever the opponent

Would love to see how many extra seats we'd have to bring into Apogee (to make more in gate receipt sales for starters) had the Mean Green just defeated the #8 ranked NCAA FBS team in the USA (that week) as ULM did against Arkansas just weeks ago.

Yes, we can do more than most we are grouped with if we merely started acting like the 4'th largest university in the Lone Star State beginning with Denton, Denton County, UNT alums and UNT students who need to look down at UT-Austin's students whose culture is to show up en mass even when they are playing an SBC program like......North Texas.

I think Coach McCarney is on schedule to take our program higher than any we've had no matter this season results.

GMG!

I think you both make a good point. The Mean Green need to be the draw for our program to ever reach the big time club, but the Mean Green can't become the draw until they reach the point where they are beating big time football programs. North Texas must become a top 25 team before they are the draw for casual fans. From what I've seen of other programs, this seems to be the formula.

Gosh, we beat Texas Southern, what does it take?

To answer the question posted in the title, yes, they can. I don't know why people insist on piling on our students, fans, etc at any and every chance they get. Someone else is having success? Let's go post on the Mean Green board wondering why we don't have success and then lament how crappy our _________ is compared to that of __________.

Good grief. Go out and enjoy game day today!

Baylor's name helped, but I think that place would've been nearly sold out had Texas Southern walked in last night. Arkansas win and the close loss to Auburn was much more what brought people out than playing Baylor.

Had we beat LSU, Apogee would've been standing room only for Texas Southern.
