I don't know how you can tell....they've completely turned over their coaching staff. Even if they returned every eligible player from last year's team, they could still be struggling due to all the coaching changes.

I'm sick of all the Penn St coverage, though. If they end up on TV every week, the sanctions will have much less affect on them. Either way, we'll know in a couple of years....I still think they should've been given the death penalty.

Way too early to tell a thing.

Still on TV. Still drawing 95k plus to Pedo Valley for games.

Asisde from losing a couple of football games, it appears nothing has changed at Penn St.

Same Culture.

Way to go, NCAA.

Can they lose 6+ games each season for 3+ years? I wonder how that culture will be if it faces that reality.

Felt really sorry for that young kicker. He...nor any member of that team...had anything to do with the problems at Penn state. Did anyone else also notice the support in the stands given the team Saturday? I wonder how many Penn State fans were running around complaining about stuff that doesn't really matter in the overall scheme of things Saturday?

Not a Penn State fan...don't much care either way, but loved the fan support they provided for the kids playing and really felt bad for their young kicker. That's all.

Edit: Had to correct the spelling of a word before the grammar Nazis got to me! Ha!

Hope they lose every game this season.

And the next.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other...just commenting on the current young kicker and the support they drew. Lose or win....whatever floats your boat. I'm sure they will feel the sanctions for years to come. The "school" deserves what it gets...the folks in no way involved...well, they will be the ones who suffer because Papa Joe and others wouldn't do the right thing the very instant they had any idea this crap was happening! But, as is often the case, the innocent actually pay the price for the crap other people pull in college athletics these days.

If by "innocent" you mean the students that rioted in support of JoePa, the community that allowed the sexual offenses to continue for years (remember, both the campus police and a previous DA administration ignored the allegations), and the community that continued to espouse the whole "it was all Sandusky's fault" mantra long after the full story emerged, and even after Sandusky was convicted, then we will have to respectfully disagree.

If Penn St. cared about anything but money, they would have cancelled the embarassment that this season will bring to Happy Valley.

They didn't.

As for the student-athletes, they had their chance to transfer. They didn't. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

Come now, Mike. You know perfectly well what I meant. I doubt anyone disagrees that penn sate got what it deserved and might have even deserved more...you know that the kids playing that game Saturday are not the ones who caused the mess, yet they will definitely pay the price.

Those kids made a loyal commitment & kept their word on playing @ Penn St. Kudos for them

We get on kids all the time for backing out or wanting to transfer for various reasons. The players who stayed showed some maturity if u ask me.

I wish them no will ill.

I don't really feel bad for anyone except the kids that were abused. However, I get what you're saying Mark. Mike spread a good light on the issue with "As for the student-athletes, they had their chance to transfer. They didn't. I don't feel sorry for them at all."

I do think they need to be banned from being on tv. Their loyal fans won't leave their side. Those people are addicted to State football. It's actually a pretty awesome passion that those fans have that I wish we could immulate.

That being said, damn Penn State and all the Joe Pa supporters. I would say damn the Sandusky supporters too, but I don't think he has any. I wish Joe Pa were alive to suffer for what he did, and I hope Jerry Sundusky gets what he deserves in prison.

Penn St. will be Penn St. again in 10 years, maybe sooner.

USC is really hurting, aren't they?

I know, I know, the penalties to Penn St. are way worse than USC. Doesn't matter. Not in an atmosphere that would rather tolerate sex acts on children than have anything happen to their beloved football program. And lets be clear, we are talking WAY more than 3 people.

I love UNT, but if anything like this EVER happened here, and the response equalled Penn. St.'s response, they would lose my support forever.

In Happy Valley, not so much.

I wish the individual players no ill will. I just hope that as a collective team, they never win another college football game.

I had mixed feelings watching that game, but it was kind of sad to me when their not so good kicker totally missed it again for the win. Those guys on the field had nothing to do with Sandusky, and it sux that they are associated with him by some. Never been a Penn State fan, but I hope they pull out of their hole sooner rather than later.
