High School : Houston Kingwood(?)

AAU : Topguns

rivals : Reports as having an offer from Auburn

247sports : Reports offers from Southern U and UTA

scout :

or

espn : have yet to grade him

A quick recap from the Houston Showcase : 2013 6-8 PF Joshua Friar is at his best when seeking and finding contact. The beefy big is a solid rebounder on both ends and can finish through contact. He will be more effective as he gets into better condition. New Orleans, Southern, LIU, UT Arlington and North Texas have offered with a planned visit to NT on Sept. 7th

Josh Friar (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood)
2013, PF, 6-8, 219 pounds

Friar is a long and very athletic post with tremendous upside. He runs the floor well and already has pretty good strength that he uses to post and seal his defender deep in the lane. He can finish above the rim with ease and does a good job off scoring over his left shoulder with his back to the rim. However, Friar will have to work on his ballhandling and extend his range in order to add to his weapons. Marquette, Cornell, South Florida and Oklahoma are showing serious interest.

Not familar with Friar. Is he new to Kingwood? What AAU team did he run with? The state's recruiting guru's don't have him ranked. Thanks

So funny to see him listed at 6'9".

He is 6'7".

But, then again, everyone listed at 6'9" in high school is probably 6'7".

Was rumored to transfer from Kingwood last year due to some infraction(s) (The Village school in Houston)

UNT had/has interest in Tavario Miller

Josh Friar 6'7 Jr. PF Kingwood HS It was hard to get a read on exactly what Friar can do based on the limited minutes he saw. The thing we do know is that he has a great body and a pair of legs that gets him off the floor easily. Friar showed good hands when on the block posting big and wide, something he says he works on with Jon Lucas a couple of times a week.

The best center at this event was 2013 6’8 man child Josh Friar from Kingwood HS, TX. This baby bull is hard to control down on the blocks. Josh has good hands and nice drop step moves to get open with his back to the basket. He likes to dunk off the-pick-and-roll and in transition. He has a nice looking face up mid-range jump shot. Remember his name, because he will be a force this season!

2013 6’8 Josh Friar told us he likes all of the Texas schools, but right now he’s wide open.

6-foot-7 2013 PF/C Joshua Friar(Kingwood - Kingwood, TX) - Friar got better as the weekend went on. The physical banger finished plays, rebounded outside his area and was a defensive presence inside. Good looking mid major prospect.

With Friar, Nunn, Norris and the Brazilian, were taken care off down low. What can we expect to round out this class? and how many 'ships do we have left?

We have at least one scholarship left with 5 seniors (Franklin, Niko, Walton, Patton, and Holmen) but with TM likely to declare and possibly Chris Jones we could have up to two more there.

With 2 left I'd like to see Pollard picked up as a SF and then nab ourselves a SG and I think we're set

Yep. I think we'll actually be just fine at C/PF. We should be good at PG for a while as well, assuming Jones doesn't just blow-up and go pro.

Now for the slashers and shooters.

I met Josh this last Friday afternoon at the superpit. He is about the same height as Tony (little taller than the kid from NC).He had 2X big ear-rings on that PM. Coach Evans (happy birthday Coach- they had a birthday party & cake around 5 that day) said that josh's Mom said that Josh needed a mentor. Coach Evans & Tony fit the bill. Evidentually Mom has lots of pull ( she came up Saturday for the game & sealed the deal). I saw them work scrimage W/O coaches & Josh was given lots of chances to show his grit.

The one that impressed me going against Tony was the guy form NC. He's overweight but is a bull under the basket. I saw him use his forearm to push Tony away & did a hook in the paint that impressed several.

Coleman looks like a body builder type. All of 6'10". Saw some other people there but Evans told me that Josh would go with us & he did. Way to go coaches. The new point guard isn't one to shoot, He like to look for a pass into the paint. Benford loves meaty kids in the paint when you look at this team. Although some need to lose weight.

Possibly Chris Jones what? I don't think he will be ready for the NBA, and all accounts have said his grades are just fine.

He's been pretty outspoken on his twitter account, according to posts on this board, that his goal is to have a breakout year and enter the draft. It's not that out of the realm of possibility but I said possibly, not likely. As in, it is a possibility so if he were to declare we need to have our eyes on a few late signees much like Benford did with Hardwick and Coleman.
