I too appreciate the student involvement, because, well, it could be much much worse.

Home opener, perfect weather, the officially reported pretendance at SMU was in excess of 20,000. There must have been a lot of people in the bathrooms.

I still don't know why SMU is allowed to blatantly fudge their numbers every week like this??

Because thats how many tickets were sold....

LOL I don't care what anyone says about our student body, atleast they don't come to football games in bow ties. Mother of bear SMU, mother of bear.

Bow ties, loafers, oxfords, khakis are always acceptable at football games

I live with the two guys in the head bands and was just on the other side of the red headed girl. It was a great atmosphere down there and everyone was into the game from what I saw. I'm incredibly sad there are only 4 home games left. GMG!

This needs to happen every game no matter who we are playing, too.

Our home schedule will dramatically improve next season as a new member of CUSA and I hope that helps with their continued "all season long" interest.

I still think UNT needs to expand its horizons and mind-set in the area of promotions because being located in DFW there are many other entertainment interests and activities vying for our fans, too. Not real happy to hear that even some youth & kid leagues are now even using Saturday nights for some of their games. Not sure why those who lead those youth leagues would do that since that has traditionally been family night for families to utilize as they wish--not a time to transports kids to football and soccer fields.

GMG!

I don't get all of the finger-pointing whether it be at alumni, Dentonites, DFW residents or SMU.

The purpose of this thread was to give well-deserved kudos to the students. Student attendance has been a problem for some time but for the last two home openers, especially, they have been there in loud numbers. It's a delight to see the student side mostly full but there is still room for improvement. I am heartened by the increase in the size of the freshman class, the push to instill student-spirit at orientation, and the impending move to Conference USA as factors helping the increase in attendance but especially the increased enthusiasm.

The alumni are more scattered and harder to cohere. They are a work-in-progress due to the many years of failure of the administration to financially support athletics. They will dribble back, encouraged by the conference upgrade, improved exposure and networking by the alums that have stayed active.

The Denton townspeople are an enigma. The city owes most of its being to the two colleges yet is almost an adversary except for the Denton merchants. It seems that UNT has tried work with Denton for the common good but that gesture has been received poorly. Except for employees of the university I don't count on any support from the rest of the citizenry. I like Denton but am very disappointed that North Texas has been virtually snubbed. To gain Denton attendance the university will have to go directly to the people; not through city government.

Lastly, what do we care about what SMU does? Their attendance figures are based on ticket sales, not attendance so pictures of near-empty stands does nothing. I only wish that our alumni poured in the millions that their alums do. For pity's sake get over the envy. Let's just concentrate on North Texas.

A big thumb's up to the students outside of adding "MF" to our fight song and chanting over TSU's alma mater, although I'm not sure they could even hear that. The addition to our fight song is inappropriate.

Maybe this week's letter to the NT Daily from coach Mac will reprimand the students for adding "MF'ing" to the fight song?

Yes - the chanting over the visiting team's Alma Mater was pretty rude. Wasnt sure if the cheerleaders started something and the students kept it going too long. I know we dont have alot of teams that bring their bands with them, so they probably got going on a chant and forgot that we have to allow their band to play. Cheerleaders should really be aware of that kinda thing. To be fair though, TSU has got the L O N G E S T alma mater I've ever heard. That thing would NOT end!

This, and I was sitting across from their band and had a speaker near by and couldn't hear the PA announcer state that they were playing their alma mater, so I'm sure the students never heard the announcement.
