Does that mean that we must pay for every sex-change operation for anyone that wants it? The fact that he's in prison seems immaterial unless you consider that we may have to build two prisons per state for each new gender so that they will not be abused. Or, maybe a criminal has more rights than a law-abiding citizen.

Even my social liberal side doesn't like this. It's one thing if I'm an insurance company or medical outfit and I was asked to pay for this sort of surgery for an otherwise law-abiding citizen. But in my mind, a murderer has basically declared war on society, so the rules change, as do their rights and privileges.

Yes, I would consider myself just a tad left of center, but this is ridiculous. Taxes are meant to improve our country, not to be wasted on a prisoner who no longer has the privilege of making his or her own decisions anymore.
