Just returned home from "across the pond" last evening and this is getting BIG play in the UK press....seems many many are up in arms over this crap and seems it will lead to a review of home owner's rights to protect themselves....that's the good news...but on another note I read in the press that a 15 year old was recently given the maximum...MAXIMUM...sentacnce that a juvenile could be given in the UK for MURDER... 1 year and a psychiatric exam!

SERIOUSLY...1 year for MURDER of another juvenile...REALLY?????

I see both sides of it but I favor more towards it being okay having a gun in your home for self defense and protection. However having firearm licences in your car does seem a bit much. It is funny when I speak to my friends from our neighbors across the pond or in Europe etc the gun laws we have here makes their reaction so funny and in so weird and disbelief.

Tried to sneak in time to see both or one of the Cardiff or Swansea games, but alas the timing just did not work out. Was in touch with the Cardiff City FC folks before ever leaving the States...but it just couldn't be done.....so sad about it...did check out Cardiff's Millennium Stadium...and saw Swansea's home pitch...but that's as close as I got...even missed the Rugby games going on while we were there...way too busy...and way too much Pub Time!

Sensational anecdotal evidence is the best kind.

Actually, to most on here, no evidence is the best kind.

If you disagree, your gonna have to take it up with Suzanna Hupp.

--- Should not say Europe in general...they vary a lot.... some of those countries have very severe penalities for drugs.. worse than ours. Spain for one. Holland has been the most open but they have tightened up quiet a bit, especially hard drugs. After all we have states that MJ is legal and some that are very harsh on it.. ..

--- UNT90 ... ever been there, especialy northern Europe?... you claim you would not like to be like them.... I have been there about a dozen times totaling about a half year (once this year) ... I was surprised when I went... Nothing like what many claimed it was.... which was backwards compared to us...They are far from backward and in fact had only flat-screen TVs in stores and at flat screens at cash-registers in 2000.... I had never seen one here at that time... an everyone was carrying around cell phones, not so much here then.. ... there is a reason so many cell phone companies [ Nokia, Ericson] early on were European. I wish our large cities had their transportation systems.... a very few do... NY, SF.etc.. Very easy to get around anywhere without a car. Speaking of cars.... I notice a lot here come from there... BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Cooper, Fiat, Porsche, etc.. I would not refer to them as primitive.

---As for guns ... which country again ... just as which state here.... Italy has a lot of gun stores (and the Mafia)... Swiss men are issued one and are considered much like national guard.

---We too have some idiot judges.... even the one in Lubbock who think Obama is going to invade Lubbock.

The Norway killers sentence is misleading to American sensibilities. He is never getting out of jail. While the specified punishment is brief for what he did, the Norwegian courts have the power to just hold someone for as long as the think he might be a threat to society. Thus short "sentences" often often lead to life or near life imprisonment.

And Texans should know the guy in Luubock isn't really a judge. He's the County Judge, the chief executive of the county. Since a county is run by commissioners and that group is called a "court," the head of the commissioners is titled a "judge." He doesn't sit for trials and often isn't an attorney. The guy in Lubbock is an idiot, but not really a judge.

I was mainly speaking of their governments.
