No, it's a former athlete who accepted a scholarship to attend UNT. Alumni from UNT helped provide that scholarship. And now, the former athlete turns around and roots for a school he has no affiliation with while that school is playing his Alma Mater, a place that gave him the tools to succeed in life, and whose alumni provided him the access to those tools at no charge.

LSU playing anyone else? Fine, d-bag it up as much as you want. LSU playing the place where you received a free education and you root for LSU? Pretty F'n sorry.

This is just a symptom of the apathy that has made UNT the red headed step child of metroplex college sports. This kinda crap needs to stop. Josh needs to understand publicly rooting against his alma mater is not acceptable.

Josh is still young. Hopefully he realizes this was a bad mistake on his part.

I have to agree with you. Can you imagine a UT or OU basketball stat/alum saying they are going to root for LSU over their alma mater? Of course not. They'd probably never be able to set foot in Norman again. We deserve the same level of respect!

If we signed more kids from Denton, instead of Louisiana, we wouldn't have this problem! After all this is the university of N. Texas.

Generally speaking, I understand bringing in talent like Josh to Denton but I don't understand walk on guys from Iowa, and other places, who will not stick around DFW when their playing days are over. When in doubt, continue to build the program with locals (when ability is about equal). Josh may be good friends with Trey Norris (We don't know the full story behind a 1 sentence tweet)

I don't think any of this matters. Regardless of where they came from I'm still willing to bet that they will root for their school no matter if they stick around the DFW area or not afterward. And I don't mind walk on guys from Iowa or anywhere in this world either...I'm sure coaches have their reason for bringing them here as their job is to build a team and I'm willing to bet they won't be rooting for say Iowa or ISU if they play UNT. I think what Josh did was very sorry and frankly classless. Yeah it's not a BIG DEAL at the end of the day but I don't think it's too much to expect better.

my B.A.is from North Texas. That is who I cheer for and I would NEVER cheer for the Longhorns over the Mean Green.

Just out of curiosity, and completely unrelated to Josh White, so it's the bachelor's, degree that dictates who you cheer for? Man, I've been wearing the entirely wrong color!

UNT90 semi-official college athletics fandom rule:

You can cheer for any school from from which you received a degree, be it a bachelor, masters, or doctorate.

If you went to college but did not receive a degree, you cheer for that college.

If you did not go to college, you are bound by geographic rules (see professional team fandom rules).

If you received an athletic scholarship, you are bound to the institution that enabled you to receive your degree (transfers must root for the school from which they received a degree, or absent a degree, must root for the school from which they last received financial support).

Got it?!?!?

Jesus, that reads like the federal tax code, but I think I got it.

Sub clause. What happens if the bachelor school should meet the master school in head to head competition.

You should see the professional UNT90 fandom code. It makes the college one look like a nursery rhyme.

But, to answer your question, you must stay with your school of choice, meaning the primary school that you root for over all others. This can be gauged by amount of games attended, amount of apparel own, etc...

You know who it really is.

No, this is not a bit. They are published. ;-)

Well I unfollowed Josh from my Twitter acount. I don't want to read that crap from fellow alumni. The first tweet was bad enough but him sending out another tweet during the game celebrating a LSU touchdown against his school is what pushed me over the edge.

So much for learning a lesson.

If I were a Twitter person, I'd unfollow him too.

Be a leader, not a follower.

Twitter sucks.

LOL... Twitter, Facebook, Penterest,... they all suck.

Not interested in leading or following. I kind of go about things my own way. Always have.

Wasn't aimed at you, just a general statement.

One I wish college coaches would preach to college athletes.

LOL you guys need help. So he's a fan of LSU, who gives a shit? He grew up a Tigers fan, cut him some slack. He still loves NT. Wow, I'm amazed at some of the reactions here.

Would it have been okay if he applied his craft at say Oklahoma or Texas? Or Texas A&M? No he'd get blasted 1000 times harder. While none of us are dying from his comments I just don't get why it's too much to expect better from him?

I guess Josh never heard the saying, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you".

I grew up a Longhorn fan. Watched all their games when I was a kid, but I don't cheer for them when they play UNT.

I don't think White loves NT. If he did, he wouldn't side with LSU over the university that gave him an education.

At work, I overheard a coworker (who I know to be a NT grad) get asked who they root for in college football. The response was "Well, I went to NT so....I'll root for anybody".

NT will gain respect as soon as our own people respect us. I know that is preaching to the choir here, but it is the truth. I WILL get that person to a football game this year.
