Frankly this scares me because Texas Tech is to Benford as LSU was to Johnny Jones. Get well soon Coach G!

I think Benford is smart enough to know that Tech is no dream job, and it would not be the best move on a lot of levels. Johnny has been part of some past glory, while there has been no glory at Tech.

This story has blown up today. Reports of multiple practices over 4 hours per day. This is from a CBS story and it makes it sound like he might be in trouble:

Gillispie and Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt did not immediately respond to calls from CBSSports.com. A source close to Gillispie told CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish early Friday that "this is very, very serious" when asked whether Gillispie's job is in danger.

Fear not, Mean Green fans. Benford isn't a big enough name for TTech.

But he may be after this year. Let us hope they don't go with an assistant as an interim for this season if he's dumped. Unfortunately, at this point there is a strong probability of that happening.

Who do they have that might want to transfer closer to home? The only one I know of is todderick gotcher (sp?) cj's old teammate from lakeview hs.

I seem to recall that they signed the teammate of PJ Sparks from Houston?? Not sure about that though.

If we have a great year like we all expect, Benford will have much stronger suitors than Tech anyways. I wouldn't worry yet.

Just... wow.

Fifteen players have already left the program prematurely since he took over in March of 2011, with the most recent being highly regarded recruit Wannah Bail, a native of the Bahamas who didn't return after the first summer school session.

Wannah Bail? He did! (good for him)

What the? Did Gillespie just go crazy? How has something like this not popped up at previous stops?

I'm pretty sure I read similar things at Kentucky. But this is much more revealing.

I was such a homer for him after what he did in El Paso. But he's such a mess since then. He needs to chill out. I hope Harry's right.

I remember reading about the brutality he threw at his first couple of teams at Texas A&M as well. It appears to be worse now, but I think the A&M culture allowed him to get away with more than he should have at the time. All sorts of stories back then about a mini-Juction Boys type of thing. Might be the reason why it seemingly got worse at Kentucky and Tech.

      24/25 MBB Attendance Tracker

      3,715 and what, maybe 200 students (not counting cheer, dance and pep band members), showed up and witnessed a clinical take down of our recent nemesis in the second half as the Mean Green pulled away for a 77-64 victory over FAU. Oops, two years removed from a final four appearance FAU (time flies). In contrast, we had 4,551 show up to see us play FAU last year. We are starting to run out of them (or are we?), but I supposed this week's excuse is the NFL playoffs. We are down 733 or 19.09% compared to the first 11 home games last year and down 1,024 or 24.8% compared to last year's full year average. We have 5 home games left this season. In the final 5-game stretch last year we averaged 4,809 (4,316, 5,689, 5,247, 4,241 and 4,551). In comparison, our highest attended game so far this year is 4,029 (780 less) for Temple. Next home game is UTSA on 2/1/2025. Last year we had 5,247 attend the UTSA game. Can we get that this year? This team deserves better.

      I think UNT Doge needs to look at those funding trails. I’m all about creating more experience environment for our fans. For adult ideas check out the concourse activity in the Thomas and Mack for UNLV games and for the kiddos check out a Texas Legends game in Frisco. It’s nonstop entertainment. Also, how about a supporters group like the Dallas Beer Guardians in Frisco before FCD games. They have an elected Board. They have a membership level as low as $10 for the season. But this group meets religiously before every game and puts on away match watching parties in Dallas and Frisco. The after party at Miss Angeline’s was fun and connecting. Organize this on the front end before the game. Jared would be well served to hire an experience engineering team that scopes successes and simply focuses on engagement initiatives. This is not his forte - he needs a team with some influencers sprinkled in. To heck with those who don’t want to come for whatever reason (some students dormant alumni). Go get the peeps who want to be entertained at the family group and individual level. GMG
