They seem to think the Cowboys will carry six RBs into the season.

RB (6)

Felix Jonesicon-article-link.gif

Lawrence Vickersicon-article-link.gif (FB)

Phillip Tannericon-article-link.gif

Jamaize Olawale

Lance Dunbaricon-article-link.gif

Analysis: This is certainty a position of length right now and might not stay this way. But the Cowboys obviously like these two North Texas rookies in Dunbar and Olawale. Tanner has been pretty good as well and with Felix Jones entering the last year of his contract, it makes sense to hold onto some of these young backs. Next year, they’ll still be young but with more experience.

But how great would it be if they did? And why wasn't Jamize utilized more while he was here? Doesn't make sense to me?

A tough question, and thanks to filmerj for asking it. I mean, short yardage situations?

I feel bad for not really know who Jamize was until all this Cowboys stuff started happening. I looked him up on last year’s roster and he is listed as a WR but in obviously in the pros is trying to make it as a RB. Wonder how he came to that decision. And nothing on him playing in 2011. Maybe that is why I just don't recall him. Jamize's profile: http://www.meangreen...0&Q_SEASON=2011

doubt that, maybe practice squad for one or both.

Dunbar won't make it to the practice squad and Oliwale may not either. The Cowboy's lack a change of pace back with breakaway speed now that Felix Jones is chubby and slow.

I just find it tough to believe that a team would need to carry 6 rb's.

My guess is that if Jamize makes the squad (practice or otherwise) it will be in a "Mr. Everything" role. RB, FB, special teams player, and in an emergency maybe even slot receiver or TE.

oddly, I didn't see them use him once in a TE/slot role. Why wouldn't they even try that if that was his true position.

Quote From Jerry Jones regarding Lance Dunbar and Jamize Olawale:

“All of those North Texas guys have a special attribute,” Jones said. “We can use them all, yet you can’t keep them all. We know a little more about Tanner because of the year he had last year and what he is with his work ethic. To be very candid with you, it was not as damning to him to have lost his time as it would be with someone let’s say like a Coale or someone like that.”

I can't stand Jerry, but it is nice to see him recognize North Texas.

Translation: I like your hustle, but your cut.

I'd also like to throw some dirt on Tanner by bringing up his painful past:

November 13, 2010: The only head-to-head matchup between the two RB's in college.

UNT - 23

MTSU - 17

L. Dunbar - 226 yds

P. Tanner - 87 yds

The Mean Green are always Mean to the Blue Raiders... even in the NFL.

They won't cut Lance, they would be crazy too. There aren't many guys that can score anytime they touch the ball. Lance can. Once Felix Jones is gone after next year, they will need Lance's speed and ability to catch out of the backfield, as well as return kicks and punts.

No question here. Dunbar is everything they wanted Felx Jones to be when they drafted him; and will only cost them $400,000. Felix's contract is up next year so let's hope they see the writing on the wall!

Good Greif! What the heck needs to happen to get McGee off of this team? Why cut Carpenter and leave McGee on the team?

Because Carpenter is eligible for practice squad and McGee isn't. I suspect that they won't have McGee on this roster much longer, but this is simply maneuvering.
