i'm sure it's discussed weekly amongst the powers that be, if I were a network, i would price a single game at $12-$15 dollars (for college football, like North Texas) and it would only go up from there
It's just naked, vapid hype generation. The announcers are just marketers for the next game. It's a sign of the times, like juvenile, inch-deep movies that exist to rape value from existing brands and services the plot for a sequel. It's mental porn or candy.
Thinking aloud here:
Every game is being captured.
Streamed into some feed, either broadcast or local computer.
Radio broadcasts are archived.
...I understand their are TV/media contracts, understandings with conferences, etc. Seems like it would be easy for someone - whoever has rights - to sync up all the media and put together a an individual game/recording as a purchasable media product.
Why is no one monetizing this?
The only thing I can think of is, it would water down (somewhat) the value of live TV and thus drive costs/margins down of what we pay for live sports. But I'm not even sure about that.
