Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed from LSU last Friday and in the week after, little light had been shed on coach Les Miles' decision to let his Heisman Trophy player go.

That is until a Louisiana FOX affiliate reported that Mathieu had been in drug rehab since Monday according to the player's father. From the report:

[T]hey've now decided, as a family, that Tyrann will remain at a drug rehab center in Houston for the near future, instead of returning to classes at LSU or any other college - in order to play football this fall.

Mathieu's father, Tyrone, told FOX 8 Sports that he, Tyrann, and the Mathieu family are committed to getting his son healthy and that football will take care of itself.

Why does anyone care what this idiot does or doesn't do? Tired of reading about athletes who throw their abilities out a window...or worse...and who think they are something special such that they are above the rules, law, etc. And, that they should get multiple chances to shape up just because they are athletes...shame on their parents, teachers, mentors, coaches, etc., etc. A little more tough love early in these kids careers might prevent some of this crap later on...are you listening Dez Bryant??? OK, Gundy and Holder...where were you? ha! Les are you listening...at least Les made the move now....we'll see what happens in the next few months with this kid.

These same old tired stories are seen way way too often.....sad, but true.

He'll be going to the NFL next year anyways.

Indeed...and then the NFL Coaches, owners and fans can give him pass after pass...prediction...we'll see this guy flame out with personal problems long before anyone is talking about him as a potentail HOF player! I expect a very short career unless he "man's up" and starts accepting personal responsibility for his actions. Book it danno!

Totally agree. That's one of the reasons why I like a good walk-on story.

He and his dad are just pandering to the cameras. This whole rehab for weed thing is just so that he can say, "I'm a changed man. Draft me please."

No, you don't go to rehab for weed unless you are in the running to be a top five pick in the draft.

You don't go to rehab break an addiction to marijuana, but you do go to rehab break yourself self-destructive lifestyle patterns. Without firsthand knowledge of the sutuation I'll never criticize an individual for getting professional help.
