Stock going up ?

McCarney has raved about redshirt freshman Jimmerson since spring practice and continued to do so after Saturday’s scrimmage.

“Whenever we scrimmage, No. 22 shows up,” McCarney said. “He gets yards after contact and tough yards, drives the pile and makes guys miss. He did some good things today.”

Stock goiing down ?

Chaz Sampson has to step up,” Canales said. “We have been hard on him and have put him in a lot of different situations. He has to perform. It’s a make-or-break year for him. He has to decide whether he is going to be a contributor or not.”

Did you interview Canales and McCarney yourself or did this come from a news article or blog?

It was in some form of article, maybe on meangreensports.com, and I know I read it today, though I am not 100% sure of where exactly that was. But, I read the same thing that the OP posted.

From the Denton RC:

“Chaz Sampson has to step up,” Canales said. “We have been hard on him and have put him in a lot of different situations. He has to perform. It’s a make-or-break year for him. He has to decide whether he is going to be a contributor or not.”

Canales singled out Jimmerson and Brown when asked about how UNT’s running backs performed.

I thought going in that Byrd would be our starting RB am I being proved wrong by Jimmerson?

I thought after spring that Jim was who dined in spring ball while the larger Byrd would be a fullback or 3rd down back. I'm not a huge fan of Brown's size in that he looks 5'5 out there on the field

A lot of good running backs haven't been all that tall. Mostly I'm basing this on our local high team, Euless Trinity Trojans though. We had a really good rb who was listed on their roster as 5'7", 170, something like that. He had a great year, led us to winning state, but was too small for D1 programs to sign (I guess). I got to looking for where he ended up, which was someplace like Alabama State, where he was listed as 5'4". He didn't require much of a hole to open up to get a first down, td, or whatever. He said something cool when being interviewed, something like, "I wish they could see the size of my heart".

That said, I think Mac is probably still looking for the answer at rb, and may have been correctly quoted as projecting rb by committee. I just want the guy(s) who can help us win.

Yeah I understand the heart vs. natural talent aspect but just as your Trinity RB had a problem getting into DIV I...our very own LD is having issues getting into the NFL (outside of practice squad). Now of course what is being mentioned is his struggles with blocking effectively among a couple of other variables but his size has so much to do with that. I just don't think a 5'6 (he is listed at 5'8 but we know better) RB will stand up very well against many of the teams that we play this year. I like hearing that Jim is pushing through and busting holes for extra yardage. Brown will be hard pressed to do the same.

I believe Jimmerson will win the starting RB job.

I think he will perform very well.

That is all.

Agreed. I don't think we'll have a thousand-yard back...I bet the leader at the end of the year has about 750-800 and my money is on Jimmerson.

I really like the note about Anyiam, Feldt, Trussell and Kirby...our offensive line depth and ability is rather impressive.

Also, Darnell Smith is this year's Ivan Delgado
