Mac was careful not to mention specific names in terms of who he thought would make an impact but he made it clear every job is open on that team. The evaluation process is starting tonight (although they won't be in full pads yet) and on a positive note it appears that everyone has their grades in order and are in Denton proper. Keep an eye out for the walk-ons this year -- Mac emphasized this was a focus area for North Texas and has been through his career. He awarded over 50 walk-ons scholarships at Iowa State and intends to do that here if they are deserving. He said Sarge McCoy is a shining example of how great an impact a walk-on can make as his prior military service and the fact he leads on and off the field. On scholarships -- he said we were still about 12-15 below the limit but anticipates that they will be whole after the next recruiting class. He did specifically talk about Marcus Trice and Laramie Lee as being more athletic and physical than the safeties we had before. He mentioned linebacker Chad Polk as putting on 20 pounds to about 235, and I can confirm that as I saw Polk and he has really bulked up a lot. That's a kid that hasn't been talked about much but he could make an immediate impact at linebacker. Last tidbit, Jeremy Phillips is up from 205 to 227 and they are expecting big thing from him this season. GMG
