Mike Stojkovic, a sophomore linebacker who stepped into the starting lineup in the middle of last season and became one of UNT’s top defensive players, will sit out the upcoming season while dealing with off-the-field issues, head coach Dan McCarney confirmed on Wednesday.

Stojkovic played as freshman. He will spend the upcoming season as a redshirt and will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013. He will practice and will be among the 105 players who report for the beginning of two-a-days in August.

Glad to see he is still with our program but no sugercoating...this is a BIG loss for our defense this season. Great kid and family that I am glad will still be around though! GMG!

Wondering if this is really just a cover for a suspension for leaving the team earlier? I hope so & maybe we see him on the field before conference starts

Wow...would have enjoyed watching him play this season. BIG loss for the Mean Green "D", but here's hoping he gets everything in order and we see him return next year to be a force on the Mean Green C-USA Defense.

Whatever the reason for the red shirt, I am just glad he's back and part of the Mean Green!

Hopefully whatever issue it was, discipline or personal, he will be able to learn and better himself from it. Glad he is still around, especially if he grows from whatever it is he is dealing with.

I'm real glad that this young man is going to continue to be with the team I'm not terribly concerned about his slot, because it has always been my observation that someone will see the opportunity to step up and fill the void. Things like this usually make for interesting stories in fall camp.
