Junior college transfer Will Latu may never suit up for the Sooners.

Sooner Scoop was told Latu isn’t officially ineligible but the “likelihood of him failing to qualify academically is much higher than was previously believed.” It’s also being reported that Latu’s JUCO Coach Garett Tujague ( 661-362-3523 ) is calling other schools, looking to find him a new place to play.

Latu has two seasons of Division I eligibility left and was touted as a tackle who could start immediately for the Sooners.

Arkansas State fans believe they have a realistic shot at landing the mammoth lineman, but this may be a player that would interest Coaches McCarney and Canales.

This is how North Texas basketball obtained Tony Mitchell from Missouri and that seems to have worked out pretty well so far.

Not really. Oklahoma has always recruited nationally; Texas pretty much stays in state. Oklahoma under Bob Stoops has recruited many JUCO players; Texas rarely jumps in the JUCO fray. Stoops learned the JUCO recruiting trade from K-State's Snyder while he was an assistant there.

That's the interesting part of the OU-Texas rivalry - different approaches, different state populations driving those, and both normally get great results.

People always talk about OU recruiting Texas, which they do. But, even outside of Texas and Oklahoma, they've got players from 14 other states on their roster:

California

Maryland

Mississippi

Nevada

Illinois

South Dakota

Pennsylvania

Kansas

Missouri

Florida

Louisiana

Georgia

Ohio

New Mexico

Texas only has 11 total out of state players on their roster. Because Oklahoma is a small population state, they have to recruit beyond their borders. Texas is a large population state, so it doesn't have to recruit beyond its borders much.
