As North Texas enters into C-USA football, I see Southern Miss, East Carolina, and Tulsa as our greatest

competition. I have been watching Rivals.com to see how these 3 teams are recruiting.

Here are the Rivals.com listings for football commitments.

Southern Miss has 10 commitments, including a 6-6, 290 DT, a 6-7, 275 DE, and a 6-5, 315 OL JUCO.

East Carolina has 10 comitments, with 4 - 3 star players. Included in this group is a 6-8, 330 OL guy.

Tulsa has 9 commitments, including one 4 star OL guy, and 3-3 star rated players

For North Texas, I am confident that Coach McCareny and his staff will successfully recruit for North Texas,

the C-USA talent needed to be competitive and win C-USA games. I believe our greatest

asset is the coaching staff itself. The 2014 North Texas class is off to a great start with recruiting

for our first year in C-USA. Our staff has 6-5, 6-4 linemen commited now. It all starts in

the trenches!

Southern Miss, Tulsa and East Carolina will be formidable but Marshall, Louisiana Tech and FIU won't be easy either and they have been outrecruiting us. The recruiting leader this year so far is Tulane. Their new coach, Curtis Johnson, is opening doors that have been closed for a long time. Even Rice is ahead of us at this point.

We have some offers to very good talent but it's too early to tell how many we'll get. It may take awhile to get up to speed with the better teams but I agree that our coaching staff is an asset and will coach them to achieve in CUSA even if we don't quite get as talented recruits.
