Received the latest "North Texan"? Just in case you haven't, here's a link. http://issuu.com/universityofnorthtexas/docs/northtexansummer2012

Go straight to the inside back cover. The ad for Mean Green football and season tickets has a full-length photo of Zac Orr standing in Apogee Stadium - holding a Washington Redskins helmet!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? Who approves of crap ads like this? Are we not trying to market our football program to the masses of former students and Alumni? And RV insists we have North Texas on our helmets???? Really? We don't even use a North Texas helmet in our own ads to our own alumni!

AGREED! That looks ridiculous. Let's show our players carrying our helmets, and let's go with UNT or NT.

You do realize his dad is Terry Orr, former Redskin?

A tribute to his dad with the stadium he plays in as a background. Nothing at all wrong with that.

"With a father who played nine years for the Washington Redskins, Zach Orr has football in his DNA. As one of UNT's outstanding student-athletes, Orr excels at making good plays and good grades. He made the Dean's List, the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Last year he was a top defender in the Sun Belt Conference and votes a team captain as a sophomore. Orr believes greatness is defined by the respect you earn from others"

Dude, that's his dad's Redskins helmet. It's a shoutout to his family.

Did you even read the ad?

DUDE! What does his dad's Redskin's helmet have to do with selling North Texas season tickets?

How about selling recruits?

Any link we can get to the NFL is good for UNT football right now.

No problem with this.

We give these magazines to how many recruits?

A plain green helmet would have even sufficed and not one with 10 letters on it with the snap end of a chin strap covering half a letter.

This was a mass advertiser for the North Texas community and constituency. IMO...not a time to get cute'sy.

Maybe a feature story inside the magazine with that Redskin helmet photo would have been a better choice.

It's done...nothing can change it now. It made today's GMG.com news cycle for sure & this thread will probably be on Page 2 by the end of this week.

GMG!

Deep, did you know about the link to his father when you posted this thread?

Last I checked, I can still read. Of course I knew the link. But what does that have to do with selling UNT season tickets and filling Apogee?

Does anyone really think that a stupid helmet and the potential loss of a marketing message will actually disway ANYONE who was on the fence about purchasing tickets? Didn't think so..... file this one under "Summer Sucks" thread.... sorry Deep.

- I count "Mean Green" or "UNT" at least 6 times in the ad.

- Full page image of Apogee in the background.

- Diving Eagle logo, UNT font, website/phone # to buy season tix, description of Orr's family history & SBC honors.

- The ad is in the NORTH TEXAN, the alumni magazine. Again... it's in THE NORTH TEXAN. Why anyone who reads this magazine would be confused - or dissuaded from buying tickets (!?!?!) by the lack of a NT helmet is beyond me.

It establishes a link between NT football and the NFL, which we could use, it tells a cool family story that humanizes one of our star players, and it's marketed to (theoretically) the most NT-savvy audience possible.

Remember that North Texan ad a couple years ago when George Odufuwa was shown tutoring some kids? Jerk was wearing a polo and khakis. Could that have resulted in some empty seats at the Pit? MISSED OPPORTUNITIES!!!!

Yep, it's summer. It needs more posters anyway.
