A recruiting timing question

OK - so we have 5-6 spots opening up - here's my question: do you try to close them early using Tony and the new staff or do you hold off and wait to see what happens after this season when a lot of people think this program is going to make it's biggest move? Just say we make it to the NCAA and win a game...wouldn't that elevate the talent we could land?

I know the answer is both but I'm looking to see if you think more early period commits make more sense given our situation.

Norris is a great start, I agree that we do a little of both. Get what solid players we can now and leave 1-2 spots open for late signees.

Trying to say this as non-judgmentally as possible... (I like Benford and I'm excited to have him).

While Benford was at his previous employer, they showed absolutely zero hesitation to cut loose a player when a better option came along for the school. Didn't matter if the kid was a November signee, a post-early signing verbal, or someone who had just inked with them 5 weeks earlier in the summer. If I recall correctly, it didn't matter if he'd already spent a year or two enrolled at school and contributing on the floor.

Given that philosophy, I don't think it matters when we sign or get verbals. If that mentality carries over to North Texas, we'll start every year with the most talented roster the coaches think they can assemble and retain. For better or for worse.
