Tony is about not-under-the-radar as you can be for a kid that is purportedly under the radar.

This has nothing to do with him being a hidden gem and everything with him playing outside the Big 6.

Not sure how someone who was a 5 star and honored by some as the best recruit in Texas could be under the radar. What they obviously mean he is one of the most talented players around not at a "big time" program.

Sadly guys, if he's not playing in one of the big 6 conferences, then he's "flying under the radar" to a majority of college b-ball watchers. Especially since he only played a handful of games outside of Sun Belt play, and did not make the NCAA tourney.

Could probably say the same thing about any "mid-major" player not named Caanan or McDermott.

So, Butler was "under the radar" in back to back runs to the National Championship game?

Sadly, I think most casual fans think that way.

They were considered a huge underdog during their entire run despite being in the top 20 the whole season. So, yes.

(Their second run was way more impressive -- that team was pretty under the radar)

texashoops.com ranked him above perry jones and phil pressey. everyone who saw him play that season knows he is a major future pro - top 5 in the draft type talent.

I would call him under the radar because most of America has no idea just how good he really is - media included.

this is accurate. not fair, but accurate.

there is a reason mid majors win in the tourney every single year. they have great players. the really talented ones have even tended to succeed again. butler, vcu, gonzaga, etc have followed runs with runs - because they have had excellent players.

but during the entire season these teams and players are under-exposed and under the radar nationally.

So true.... And all a school like ours needs is 1 player like Tony to come through our program to set the trend. HS players will see his sucess and Draft Pick status and realize that it doesn't take a Big 6 school to go large. Tony is capable of building a dynasty here

Funny that a player who had NBA scouts and even GMs flocking to see him play is listed as "under the radar."

NBA scouts know who he is, but the casual and knowledgable fan does not... in which TM would be "under the radar"

Just depends who is operating the radar. If some buffoon who does not do due diligence to college basketball is running the radar, then yes, he is under the radar. If someone who keeps up with the total college basketball landscape is running the radar, then he is not under the radar. Most radar operators (sports writers) are too lazy to even turn on the radar, much less watch it correctly.

I love this term. If you are writing about someone that you have noticed, are they really still under the radar?

No. It's hipster-cool.

Later this year, expect to see another article from this dude: "See, I told you this guy was going to be good!"
