I don't really have a strong opinion about this (other than to say, if we're going to make a comic book character gay, why not make one who's gay instead of changing a multi-decade storyline) ...but are you really trying to make an argument that "they are trying to make it more realistic?" Is REALISTIC of particular concern when the character in question has unexplained mythical super-natural powers, and runs around in Spandex saving the world?

As a DC fan i was saddened when i first heard the news. The only reason their doing this is to get cheap publicity so that sales MIGHT go up a little bit. I seriously doubt there are enough gay comic book readers to justify making such a radical change.

I think there's probably quite a few gay comic book readers. It's odd to me that they changed a WWII Era Green Lantern, or rebooted him, or whatever the hell. I think they actually HAD to do it to an already existing superhero, because otherwise it's not going to sell enough to justify an entire new title/hero, just don't get the reasoning of using the name of the guy from the era when people actually might've given a crap about the Green Lantern.

But this is really just about drumming up interest.
