Wow

SMU athletic director Steve Orsini has been fired, effective immediately.

Fired effective immediately...waiting to hear the other shoe drop?

This could get good..

No other details have been given regarding this matter. No speculation has risen that this is in any way related to the recent Larry Brown hiring for the basketball program.

Details of Brown's deal with SMU, a private school, were not disclosed. Brown declined to talk about his contract, other than to say, "I've always been overpaid and this is no exception."

Do we dare speculate? Did he over promise Larry Brown? Is there something in the Larry Brown contract that administration is unhappy about?

Larry Brown is probably calling Gerald Turner and asking, "do I need to be concerned"?

Larry probably called Turner and TOLD him it's Orsini or Me!

Larry Brown unchecked in his first recruiting class?

What's that I smell?... Oh ya. NCAA sanctions, baby!

Maybe Orsini wasn't paying enough attention to the school... seeing as, he too, also has to spend a lot of time with his Inner-City Youth Ministry

A source with knowledge of the relationship between the administration and Orsini has said that there is a possibility that administration was not as upfront about the budget of the basketball program and where funds would be spent. Athletics wanted a more unified athletic budget, which does not include the cheer and band programs.

The source mentioned that Orsini did not understand why there was not some support from the athletic department to these programs so that athletics, the band and cheerleaders could work together on gameday programming, the in-game experience and general views on how they could support each other.

This explains why the band and cheerleaders do not participate in the Mustang Walk before football games and why a great in-game experience is not something that is seen from Mustang fans. Supposedly, some funds for the business school were also managed by the athletic department, but the source did not know how true that might have been.

Boosters are apparently more involved than most would imagine according to the source.

“It feels like the 1980s all over again,” the source said. The source thinks that the inmates might be running the asylum and Pres. Turner is the puppet they use.

The source also mentioned that Orsini’s firing had been brewing for a few months with the national media calling the coaching search one of the worst in NCAA history — that might have been the final nail in the coffin.
