Louisiana Tech recently punched its ticket to join Conference USA, but the cost of that ticket will be paid over the next four years.

The C-USA entrance fee is $2 million, according to Tech athletic director Bruce Van De Velde, who was in town on Friday night at the Bossier Civic Center for the Northwest Louisiana Tech Advancement Group's Tech & Tails V celebration.

"We will pay that out in $500,000 increments," Van De Velde said.

It remains unclear what, if any, fee Tech will have to pay for the quickly deteriorating WAC, which will have just two football playing schools in 2013, unless more are added.

Let's see, C-USA alone will realize $6.63 million apiece from Memphis, UCF, SMU and Houston when they leave to join the Big East after the 2013 basketball season, according to C-USA assistant commissioner for public affairs Courtney Morrison-Archer. That will produce a sum of $26,520,000 to be split between the eight remaining members. A two million dollars entrance fee a piece from six new schools (assuming ODU commits) will produce an additional sum of $12,000,000. You think the eight remaining members are going to miss Memphis, UCF, SMU and Houston ? Did I hear a cha-ching.

I think we might miss a couple of those schools; maybe even 3.

In one of RV's quarterly meetings many years ago didn't he say that he had a donor who had committed to pay the CUSA entrance fee whenever we got admitted.

That sound familiar. But, it's been a while - is that donor still alive?
