He's so great...and truly special...a once in a generational type of player as far as how good he can actually be. I know he's a risk but I am not and was never in favor of Texas letting him go...he's just that special man.

If you watched ESPN this morning, all 4 HRs came with the pitch in the same position. Outer third fo the plate. Maybe they should pitch him somewhere else?

I ask because I know he will be superr expensive and I don't quibble with that given his results, but if I wwere the Rangers GM, I would have a "price point" that I would not go over...even $1.00 and if Josh couldn't sign for that I would bid him adieu and best wishes. Yes, as great a player as he currently is...here's my reasoning;

1. Fragile...I think we can all guarantee that he will on the DL at least 2-3 times this season....it can only get worse with the wear and tear and abuse his body has taken...and not all from baseball; and

2. He is one relapse away from disaster at all times and has shown that relapses will continue to occur...no one, not even Hamilton knows when the next will happen.

So, is the risk-reward worth it? I ask because I love watching Hamilton play and love having him on the home town rangers, but...as a GM it isn't about "Love having him"...it's about production and dependability and clubhouse demeanor, etc.

So, baseball folkls who know much more about this stuff than I do...what say you? Try to keep the emotions out of it folks...we all know Josh hamilton is a GREAT baseball player. Potential Hall of Famer...IF...and the "if" is a big IF in Hamilton's case....

The answer to your question is a resounding "YES!"

When he is playing, be it 162 games or 100 games, he is a force to be reckoned with and is a game changer. Worth every dime a team can throw at him.

Completely torn and hoping I never have to make a decision with the talks supposedly going on right now. You're going to pay him more than he is worth for sure to keep him, but we did basically pick him over Prince Fielder this summer (based on Simpson's quote.) It will also be time to potentially replace Cruz and Napoli and we could face a nice bidding war for the AZ catcher coming free.

I know we're laughing at the Angels now and expect to most of the season, but they have a lot of money coming off the books this summer. However, we still have a bunch of talent fermenting nicely, so I think the trade deadline will tell us a lot if something doesn't happen before then.

It IS risky, but you can take the risk on talent. You've got a good Cuban CF in Leonys Martin who was coming along nicely before he tore his thumb ligament (another reason why people like Josh need to stop sliding head-first), so I'd like for Josh to be relegated to 3rd/emergency CF only long-term, with most of his time eventually coming at LF, 1B, DH. Unlike Nellie, he has the body type and skillset to remain a viable player into his 30s. Personally, I'd like them to make a play at Napoli, too, for positional scarcity.

It's not like it'll be a Pujols contract where you're paying someone $26 million in their mid-40s.

That's a monster problem for the guy, and I thought everyone knew that. Good gosh...it's a major problem for many addicts just like Josh. You might want to bone up on your awareness of major addiction cases such as Josh Hamilton. Without the help, support and love of a great wife and family, and a slew of professionals,he could well be living on skid row right now...or worse. He is very lucky that he is a ballplayer and not just your "average Joe". Even one drink...one beer and the guy could be banned. Or, much worse, it could lead to an immediate and serious relapse into addition and using. This is really serious stuff folks, and Josh knows it...it's tough to overcome...very tough.

SHOW HIM THE MONEY!! It doesn’t have to be today but before the end of the season they better get the deal done. 5 years 125m range with a club option on the 6^th and player option for the 7^th. That game Tuesday was the best offensive performance most of us will ever see. I’ve seen a lot of baseball in my day and I’ll qualify this by saying I never saw Ruth, Mays or Mantle. I’ve said it since 2008 JOSH HAMILTON is the best player I’ve ever seen play the game. He is the quintessential 5 tool player he does things I’ve never seen a player do. The only players in recent history I could even consider comparing would be Griffey.

Agreed...as bad as it may sound to some people the only thing that matters is what he does on the field. If he had baggage and sucked then by all means get rid of him but he's so dynamic and good that he truly makes the team so much better just by himself.

The problem is that his private life can lead to a multi-game suspension and that has an effect on the team and his on the field performance. Sign him, but put a clause in the protect the team in the event a relapse. Not a relapse like the one the past off season, but a relapse to illegal drugs that leads to him squandering his career.

As a player, he is incomparable. A true five tool player that makes the game look extremely easy. If he stays clean, the sky is the limit. There is not another player in his category. A-Rod wishes he had the overall talent of Hamilton. He reminds me of Griffey Jr. when Griffey Jr. was in his prime.
