In return C-USA gets a Tier 1 institution. The article was talking about La Tech wasn't it?

For Tier 1 in Texas as a full research university the endowment minimum is $400 million. I think UNT is only $300 million away from its goal. :rolleyes1:

Good news for UNT seems to be that we meet all the other critieria of which at this moment I cannot recall what all they are.

You keep posting that and I keep correcting you! A $400 million dollar endowment is just 1 of 7 thresholds. 4 thresholds must be obtained to acquire tier 1 status. The only required threshold is research expenditures, that paired with any 3 thresholds from the remaining 6 thresholds qualifies a university for tier 1 status.

La Tech will travel well to Denton, I doubt anything close to 5k but there are probably more La Tech grads in a 100 mile radius from Denton than there are in the same area around Ruston. People making the trip from around Ruston/Shreveport will probably not number a 1,000 but there will be a lot of La Tech fans that live in the Metromess.

I think the first time La Tech visits Apogee Stadium they do bring close to 5,000 fans. Our UNT students may need to be teased that "someone wearing red and blue will be sitting in their seats if they don't get to the stadium on time." (Of course, La Tech fans will have an assigned section).

I do hope our UNT athletic dept. promotions department (do we have one?) will have already started on some clever promotions they need to plan to fill the Wing Section end zone (for starters) this year and If not for this Fall, for certain our first one in CUSA.

To use Silver Eagles terminology, now is the time to develop our new on campus culture where you support the team no matter who they're playing or no matter the W/L record. I know when Coach Fry first hired on at Iowa, he was amazed at Hawkeye fan support after about 20 losing seasons in a row in the Big 10. When he was introduced to Iowa fans at a baskeball game in 1978 all he said was 2 words "We'll Win" and he brought the house down according to stories I heard from Iowans. (Sorry, guys, with me you have to put up with old dad jokes and Hayden Fry--he did leave an indelible impression with me and many others on this board to say the least; seems he also did with Dan McCarney)

Like so many of you , I look forward to having a set conference home schedule at Apogee annually with schools only someone living in a cave would not know about. This is going to be fun. Like Coach McCarney has even referred to about Apogee inasmuch that it should have been built years (decades) ago, but..........better late than never.

As I post, watching the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies" and UNT grad/alum actor Joe Don Baker of Groesbeck, Texas, just walked into a scene with Bond...............James Bond. :)

You're going to give us one of your honor graduates as a prize? Thanks, but no thanks. B)

Yes.

I think that first game in Denton could quite possibly have that many LaTech fans. However, I'm still trying to find where in the link it ever said that we will bring 5k fans to Denton. :shifty:

I was in attendance that evening at the Iowa Fieldhouse when Hayden made that proclamation. 14 bowl games including three Rose Bowls over the next 20 seasons very much proved that Coach Fry made an accurate prediction!

Hey Plumm, do you think it would work for us to put all of the visiting fans in the Wing Section?

Given that so many of the other C-USA universities' fans are now expected to be coming to Apogee on game day, wouldn't it be in our best interest to follow the lead of so many other universities by allocating tickets to visiting fans in the the deep end zone?

Doing so would then open some pretty good sideline seating for our own fans once they start beating down the doors to get into Apogee on game day.

Serious question Mr. Amiable. Have you ever been to a game at LaLa? If so, then how does the LaTech tailgating atmosphere compare to them?

Because I have to tell you that I have never been to a better tailgating experience than LaLa.

I thought the seating allotment areas the UH Coog fans received was fair. 3 different sections of Apogee as I recall and I don't remember hearing of any

complaints from any of them.

We all hope that your idea of putting all visiting fans in the Wing Section becomes a necessity of our having sold our part out to MG fans rather than our being

arse-holes to our opponents to purposely give them bad seats just because we can. Again, like our UH game I think you can split up sectional seating for visiting fans; just hope we don't have many

seats available to where we have to do so. Ideal would be having only 1,000 tickets available for any visiting fans for any future game. We know that won't happen

soon.

NOTE: Having sat in the Wing Section for a game last Fall, it is really and truly not that bad a seat which I know many of us cannot say the same about

others of our opponent's stadiums end zone seating who have very, very poor sightlines. Just sayin'...

I'm trying to remember in traveling to out-of-town games if I've ever been put in the end zone. The only one that I can recall is UT. Well, OU put us at the side of the end zone.

Maybe if they purchase their allotment any overflow could be seated in the wing zone.

The only game in which The Mean Green parents sat in the end zone the last two years was at Clemson and it was a blessing because we were in the shade. Every place else is about the same place as we have sat at Denton.

Good for LaTech for being able to take 5K to each out of town game, I challenge the Mean Green Faithful to be as plentiful as the UH traveling crowd as the Mean Green travels this year and next.

Yes, the seats at LSU were particularly sweet when we played them in 2008. I sat 40 yard line about 30 rows from the visitor's bench right in the middle of the Mean Green section. Something to look forward to this year.

It was nice to be able to sit in the shade at Clemson on a hot day plus we were able to look head on towards the other end zone for the Howard Rock Tradition before the start of the game. We also sat in the end zone at Army. Great enviroment and view no matter where you sit.
